Harry helps me take my suitcases up to my room before we go back down stairs.

“Do you want me to make him leave?” Harry asks as we walk down the stairs.

“I don’t think mum would want that.” I say in all honesty. I definitely would like him to leave, but it seems as though mum wants to talk to him.

“Just say when and I will be happy to kick him out.” Harry says seriously.

I give him a thankyou smile before we walk into the lounge room where Mum and Zach are sitting. Mum is wiping her eyes with tissues as they start a conversation, but I cut her off.

“Mum can I speak to you please.” I demand.

“Right now?” She rolls her eyes at me.

“Yes. Right now.” I bite. She’s really getting on my last nerve.

‘Fine. I will be back Zach.” Mum smiles before leaving the room with me.

“Are you okay to stay here?” I whisper to Harry.

“Yeah, I will be fine.” He says before pecking me on the cheek. I smile at him before leaving the room with mum.

“Yes Mia?” She asks stopping in the middle of the kitchen.

“What are you doing mum? I’m not trying to be rude, but you are being a complete idiot.” I hiss.

“Excuse me?!” She yells.

“You are. Why are you letting him back into our lives? You know how much he hurt me and you! Do you not remember?” I yell back.

“Mia. You will learn in life to give people second chances. You haven’t even let him explain himself yet. He might be different.” Mum calms her voice.

“People don’t change mum. Not that much at least…” I mumble.

He’s not different and I can feel it. I know he hasn’t changed and he wouldn’t just come back randomly. I’m not buying into any of his shit.

“You never know Mia.” Her voice is gone completely calm.

Why is she being so okay with this? It’s not okay. This is a big deal!

“You don’t see do you mum? I’m warning you now not to trust anything he says! I can feel it, he hasn’t changed. He’s the same kid he was since we left them. I’m warning you. Whatever you decide is your problem now.” I protest.

She doesn’t understand. The motherly instincts are blocking all of the bad warnings that are shining off Zach. I refuse to talk to him or be nice to him after what he has put us through.

There are things that I haven’t told anyone that Zach had done to me. I’m pretty sure mum doesn’t even know. I have tried too hard to block all of these horrible memories out. But they are all flooding back.

“Mia. You’re being ridiculous. You can warn me, but he’s my son and I believe nothing bad will happen.  I can feel it, he’s different now.” She argues back.

“Don’t expect me to talk or be nice to him at all.” I say before leaving the kitchen as quick as possible.

I refuse to argue any longer. I know I’m right. I walk into the lounge room where Harry is sitting across from Zach. I can feel the tension in the room. My anger is boiling inside of me every time I see Zach’s face. All the emotions I have felt over the years are coming at once and I just want to break down, but I will not do that in front of Zach. I have to be strong.

“Harry lets go.” I say avoiding eye contact with Zach and pull his arm.

“Where?” he questions.
