about slamming Gretchen's face on the car. So I did.
The fact that she stood up, tackled me to floor and started punching me got me furious. I don't care that I just ripped her skull open. I don't care that she's mad.
I care that I gave her what she deserved and now she's asking for more, and I never say no to a good offer.
So while she thought she could beat me up, I turned her around and startled her lap. Punching her until I couldn't any longer since Dan and Caleb are dragging me back by my arms away from her. Now my urge to punch her is stronger.
Putting Mia and I at risk to die. Lying to me. Being cocky. Being her. I don't have time for this. Don't get me started on Lucy, I thought I could trust her yet here I am beating up her traitor of a daughter while giving her the roughest glare.
"Fuck you, Ace. Fuck you." Gretchen said while Lucy helped her stand up; which made me go against Dan and Caleb so I could punch her again, but they held me back and lifted me up. Why couldn't I be taller?
I am tall, just not taller than Caleb. Mia is a few feet away from me just watching Gretchen bleed, and it's scary that I'm proud she didn't stop me. When Caleb let's me go and goes towards Gretchen I start talking with my mouth instead of my fists.
"What the hell did you do to my head Gretchen? I woke up bleeding for fucks sake. I almost broke my arm because of you. If it wasn't for Caleb I wouldn't have found you and I would've fucking died." I struggled against Dan while saying since I was still furious. I just can't believe it.
"You think I was just going to follow some wacko that told me this was going to get better? That I was going to get rescued? You think-" Her southern accent was peaking out while struggling to speak.
"...you think that after my mother and brother died, because of you, I was just going to follow you and trust you? Huh Ace?" Gretchen finished saying while holding the fresh cut on her face.
I was breathing hard while she mentioned her mother and brother. They did die because of my plan, but if we wouldn't have tried to escape we would've all died.
"I did what was best for all of us Gretchen. If we wouldn't have gotten out of there in time, we would've died. All of us." I spoke with shakiness in my voice. People died because of me. Lives were taken.
She was leaning back on the car now, looking at the sky. Lucy was seated on the passenger seat just looking forward with the door open. Caleb was staring right at me, eyes filled with anger and sadness.
"I wanted to help all of you. What you did would've gotten us killed. If you hate me so much for what I did, why would you be responsible for our deaths?" I asked in complete seriousness.
"Because I wouldn't care if you died." Her response was simple. With no compassion.
"Enough. Give us our things back. You wanna go by yourselves? Fine, but we worked for what we have. You have to work for yours." Mia opened her mouth and started talking like nothing happened.
"You can go fu-"
"Yes I can go fuck myself Gretchen. Before I do that I want my shit back. I don't care that my sister just beat you up, I'll do it again if you don't give it all back." Mia interrupted her like once again, like nothing ever happened.
Lost for words, Gretchen just rolled her eyes and walked towards the back seat. Taking out the bags, her hands shook with fear and anger. Once she had them, she closed the door with her foot and threw the bags towards us on the floor.
"There, that's all of it." She said lying once again. Gretchen loves to piss me off doesn't she?
"Take it off." I demand it when Dan and Mia took the bags. Gretchen had my moms leather jacket around her waist.
"My jacket. Take it off. Give it to me." I asked once again when she didn't move a muscle. Before I could go over there and take it from her, Caleb yanked it form her waist and threw it to me. I could see in his eyes that he wanted to come with us.
"Have a good one." Dan said over his shoulder and kept walking along side Mia with the bags.
My arm hurts like hell and my head is pounding once I open the trunk to put all the stuff in. Adrenaline is out of my system and all the punches Gretchen managed to give me were vivid on my skin, but before we could get in the car and get out of this horrible town Lucy was running towards us.
"Wait, listen. Our car broke down, please he-" she said while jogging, but she fell to the floor when she got closer.
Over the mysterious string.
The sound of the delicate string breaking was similar to a whip. Which just made the whole situation more unsettling. We just stayed still for a few seconds, waiting.
Caleb and Gretchen were now also walking towards us. Caleb tried to ask what we were doing just standing there but Dan told him to shut up. Everyone was now standing still on the spot, waiting for something to happen.
The silence was making me nervous and nauseous, and before I could say anything, the houses of the street started blasting rock music. We all crouched down and held our ears tight from the sudden outburst of music.
When I opened my eyes and stood straight, form a far I could see infected walking and running from the end of the street. I turned back and saw even more; my adrenaline came back rushing through my veins.
"GET IN THE CAR." I screamed out, and no one hesitated.
Dan ran towards the drivers door and turned the car on while Mia and I jumped in the passenger seat. Lucy, Caleb and Gretchen jumped in the open trunk and squeezed in as much as they could, shutting the trunk once they were all piled up. Dan moved the car next to the red truck and turned it off again.
"KEEP GOING WHAT ARE YOU DOING?" Caleb screamed at Dan from the trunk. I knew the answer already.
"Look. We're blocked." Dan said with anger dripping from his words.
The infected were walking, limping, crawling and running around. Blocking our path. If we were to go over them, our tires would pop. Their bones sticking out of their bodies are sharp. We only have one spare tire left.
"AH!" Gretchen screamed. We all looked back and horror filled my eyes, and infected was running straight towards the car.
Now that Gretchen screamed, it caught the attention of others. The infected banged his head on the window while the others just slapped the car and snapped their jaws.

"Ok, it's a song right? Let's just wait till it ends. Then we make a plan and we leave." Mia said out loud for everyone to hear.
"Yeah, it's early still. We have time." Dan spoke with reassurance in his voice, but I could tell he said it to himself. To calm himself.
Once everyone stopped talking, I stared at the infected. How many were they? And how long till we leave?
