I woke up to a baby's crying. At first, I forgot where I was and freaked out because there should not have been a baby in our New Rome apartment. But when my eyes snapped open and I saw the blue walls of Percy's old bedroom, I smiled. Percy, of course, was still out. He could sleep through just about anything. He even slept through my cousin's sword, Jack's, karaoke version of "Can't Feel My Face" by the Weekend one time. How, I have absolutely no clue. Jack was just about as good as karaoke as Magnus was at not dying. That's to say, not good.
"Percy, wake up," I said softly, gently shaking him.
"I'm sleeping."
"You're sleeping right now?"
"Yep."
"Alright, I guess I'll just have to eat all of the blue pancakes myself then. What a shame."
"Blue pancakes?" he asked, shooting straight up.
"No, I just wanted you to wake up."
"You are horrible person." But he stood up and kissed me anyway.
The baby's crying traveled down the hallway again. Percy looked at me and his eyes seemed a little brighter. Without a word, we simultaneously raced out of the bedroom and into the kitchen where Paul and Sally stood, a screaming baby in Sally's arms. Percy walked over to his parents and took his sister out of his mother's arms. He held her close to his chest and kissed her forehead. She stopped crying almost immediately. I grinned at the sight of the two of them. Percy is so good with her, I thought. He would be the best father. I saw, in my mind's eye, Percy and me and a little girl with Percy's black hair and my grey eyes running down Halfblood Hill, laughing and yelling and having a great time. I blushed deeply. Where had all that come from?
I walked over to the family, but a little hesitantly. I felt almost like I was intruding. They must have noticed because Sally came over to me and pulled me into a big hug. Paul smiled warmly at me and Percy gave me his signature lopsided grin. I was so content to just stay here forever.
But we couldn't. We had to get to camp. Not that I didn't want to go, because camp is my home. I just had found another home and didn't feel like leaving yet. I told myself that there was much, much worse places to go than Camp Halfblood. That put me right in the mood to go. So after Percy and I ate our blue pancakes (Sally really had made them!) and gave/received a dozen hugs, we left the Jackson-Blofis household. We started the drive to camp.
The campers were definitely in the Halloween spirit. We so conveniently arrived just at dusk, giving the entire place an eerie glow. The Big House was showered in Jack-O-Lanterns that cheerfully glared at us with glowing eyes. Don't worry: regular flame-candles in the center. The Hermes' cabin learned the hard way that Greek fire was not good sources of pumpkin light. The canoe lake had mist rising off of it. Or was it Mist? Maybe the Hecate cabin had worked some magic, or maybe it was the cool October air. All of the cabins were decorated uniquely. Fortunately, I saw no spiders anywhere. That didn't mean I wasn't going to be cautious.
The campfire was currently taking place. I couldn't hear what was happening all the way from up here, but the fire portrayed that the energy and excitement level was high, although it seemed a little shaky. Maybe they were sharing scary stories down there.
We made it about halfway to the campers before we were noticed. We were engulfed in hugs. The Stoll brothers came up to us excitedly.
"This is going to be the best Halloween ever!" exclaimed Connor.
"Yeah, we can't wait for you guys to see the Haunted House!"
"Oh, I'm sure we'll love a dark, scary place that has danger lurking around every corner," Percy answered sarcastically. The brothers didn't catch on though.
"Everyone else is getting here tomorrow morning, and since tomorrow is officially Halloween, it'll be open tomorrow night," said Connor. Can't wait for tomorrow! Note the sarcasm.
Part 3 is coming up tomorrow! That will be the last part. Also, obviously I have no rights over "Can't Feel My Face" by The Weekend. Great song though! I wanted to use that one because when Jack sang that in the actual books, it was so funny.
