Part 16
As soon as I saw Renzo's gloomy face the next morning, I knew I was in big trouble. Not only had Severon made me sleep in my now colorfully ruined room, which now contained my very wet bed, he didn't even send dinner for me. To say I was starved would be an understatement, and seeing Renzo in my room without a breakfast tray only made me fall into despair. Severon was really angry and God knows what he has planned for me, I just hoped I was strong enough to survive whatever he threw at me. I could not let Severon see me as a weakling; that would be the biggest loss of all.
"What? He plans to starve me now?" I asked Renzo.
Renzo sighed. "You really pissed him off, Kelsey. He is not going to be nice to you anymore, not until you submit to him," he replied.
I stood up from the bed, ignoring the trembling of my legs. With careful steps, I marched over to where Renzo stood looking tensed. "If he thinks that he can get me to submit by starving me, then he needs a serious change of perspective. Starvation might weaken me physically but I won't be weak mentally. And by doing all this, he is only proving to me just how weak he really is; that he needs to physically weaken his opponents before he can defeat them. That's not strength or power, that is weakness," I stated.
He put his hands on my shoulders. "Kelsey, listen to me. You don't know Severon, you don't know what he's capable of. Please, just give up, I don't want him to hurt you, please," he pleaded, his eyes begging me to listen.
"Renzo. You are an amazing friend, and trust me, I appreciate the fact that you're looking out for me, but this is a battle you can't fight for me. I am not going to give up and submit to Severon, never."
"He's a monster, Kelsey. He'll ruin you, and he is going to enjoy doing it," he argued.
"Let's see him try," I said.
"Please be rational. Just submit to him, and he won't do what he is about to do to you." Renzo told me.
Fear threaded my heart at his words. Just what was Severon planning that had Renzo so scared and begging me to submit without even fighting. And now, it wasn't just starvation that was making my knees weak, it was the terror in Renzo's eyes that had my legs turning to jello.
"Wh—What is he planning to do?" I asked, dread turning my voice to a whisper.
"I am suppose to take you to him," Renzo uttered.
"That is not the answer to my question!" I cried.
"That is the only one I have. I don't know what he's planning, but knowing Severon, it's probably something people would never wish even on their worst enemies. Please Kelsey, you still have time, just give in to him, you don't want to see the monster he really is," Renzo tried again.
"I can't do that, Renzo. I can't give in. You might think I'm being stupid, that I should just surrender, but I can't do that. My parents never taught me to give in, they never taught me to be a doormat, and I'll be damned if I let my parents' teachings go in vain." I told him.
"But—"
"No. I'm not going to give in." I took a deep breath. "And you can tell Severon that if he wants to torture me, he'll just have to come and get me himself." With that I turned and jogged back to my damp bed.
Renzo closed his eyes, threw his head back and groaned in frustration. "Stop being so stubborn, Keley, it's not going to help you. Just please do as he says for once," he whined.
I shook my head. "No can do. He kidnapped me; left my bears behind; starved me, and now he is planning to torture me in some painful way and you are telling me to give in? Nopes, not happening. Tell Severon I said hi." I leaned my back against the headboard.
