Part 29
The doctor smiled as the men laid me down on my front before departing silently. Once I was alone with the pretty doctor, she stepped forward. I ran my gaze over the woman wearing the standard white coat, which I had seen Severon holding the first time I met him. She had golden hair which was tied in a neat pony tail; her green eyes shimmered with calm and tranquility. Her pink lips were curved in a friendly smile, and she exuded an aura of peace.
"Hello, I'm Dr. Stan. Would you like to tell me your name?" She asked.
I listened to her words, which felt like dripping honey. She sounded American, which had me wondering what she was doing in Italy, working for the Mafia. Should I ask her the questions that were threatening to spill from my mouth, or should I keep my thoughts to myself and stop prying into people's personal lives?
The fire burning my back gave me my answer. Personal questions could wait, I had more pressing matters to deal with. But I did not want to tell her my name either. Once she fixed my back, then I would have a friendly talk with her. Although, there was one question that reared its head, a question which had me forgetting the pain my back was going through.
"Where is Severon?" I enquired.
The smile on Dr. Stan's face fell, causing my heart to tighten with worry. Where was Severon? Why did he not see me when I came? Why did he leave me in the hands of his demonic twin brother? Did he leave me? Was he so angry that he wanted Severin to torture me?
"Dr. Aresco...is not well."
Before she could say anything, I interrupted her. "Why? What happened to him? Is he here? Does he have a fever?" I blurted out, trying to sit up, my weight on my arms. I was vaguely aware of the screaming scars on my back, but right now I needed to know where Severon was.
"Uh no. You'll see him soon. Lie down, I have to tend to your wounds," the doctor said, forcing me to lie back down.
"No. I want Severon to tend to my wounds. Not you." To be honest, I had no problem with whoever tended my wounds, as long as they made the pain go away, but I wanted to know what happened to Severon. Although, I was confused as to why I was so worried about him all of a sudden.
Because you lo—
I snapped the lid on the jar of impossible thoughts and notions, and instead tried to focus on a rational possiblity. The reason why I was so eager to see my medical captive was becuase he wasn't there when I arrived. He told Renzo to bring me back to Italy and now he was nowhere to be seen. Why did he call me back when he wasn't there? Was this his way of telling me that he would no longer see me? And why did that thought cause a twinge of pain in my heart?
"I told you, Miss, Dr. Aresco is not well," she repeated.
"Then tell me what happened to him? Why is he not well?" I demanded, ignoring the painful spasms that had my back shuddering in agony.
The doctor chewed her bottom lip looking unsure. How was she a doctor when she was so unsure? She looked as if she didn't know how to deliver bad news, and in my opinion that was a not a good thing. If she did that with someone else, that person would imagine the worst.
"He's been shot."
Those words had me forgetting the lacerations on my back. My mind stilled on those three words. Those three words that had the cells in my body turning to stone from shock.
Shot?!
Severon has been shot?!
"What?" That was all I could manage as shock froze my body, the three words echoing in my mind.
