Previous: Her heart ached for him and before she knew what she was doing, her back touched the leather seats of his car and he reached over her to pull the passenger door closed.
Jess grabbed clumps of her jeans with both hands and gripped them tightly. What had she just done? Okay, maybe he wasn't a murderer but there was definitely something off about him. She pushed herself up against the passenger door and tried not to breathe in his musky intoxicating scent.
Derek gripped the steering wheel tight when he glanced over. Jess looked tiny pushed up against the passenger door. He could smell the mix of fear in with her vanilla scent. He inhaled deeply only focusing on the vanilla. He gazed over her and his whole body tensed when he saw she was white knuckling her jeans. She was petrified.
"Do you really hate me that much?" he snarled, trying to keep his anger at bay.
She was his mate. She shouldn't be scared of him. This was absolutely in no way what he wanted.
Jess stiffened and released her pants, rubbing her knuckles that ached now.
"I dont hate you...I just don't know you", she replied looking out the window at the trees whizzing by.
At least he was going the right way to her house. She had told him the address and he just nodded mysteriously. It was beyond strange.
"You could've fooled me by the way your itching to get away", he said clutching the steering wheel tighter and tighter.
Jess crossed her arms and finally looked over at him.
"You were just accused of murder", she stated coldly.
She watched as his body flinched and she instantly regretted saying it. His sister had died and he was obviously in pain over it.
The car fell silent and Jess sighed looking back out the window. They were close to her house now but she had no idea how he knew where it was. Jess's house, which had originally been her parents home was tucked away in the very back of a coldasac. There was a very long driveway to the house. The house couldn't even be seen from the road, yet Derek seemed to know where he was going. He turned down the long road and gazed over at Jess.
"This is your house, right?" He asked.
Jess watched her house come into view before nodding. The car idled in front of her house and although Jess had been waiting for this moment ever since she got into Derek's car, she couldn't make herself budge from the seat.
She glanced over at Derek. He sat firm in his seat, looking forward and gripping the steering wheel.
"Have a good night, Jess", Derek said abruptly without looking at her.
Her heart dropped at the emotionless response and proceeded to get out of the car. As she turned to shut the car door, Derek leaned towards the passenger side door.
"I'll see you later", he said definitely.
Jess shuttered. The first time he had said that she highly doubted that she would see him but this time was different. This time she knew she would see him again. She nodded curtly and then shut the door.
It wasn't until she made it into her house that the sound of tires on gravel made it to her ears.
As Derek looked at her house in the rear view mirror he couldn't help but be incredibly angry. His mate thought he was a monster already and she really had no idea. He hit the steering wheel hard and cursed. Scott and Stiles seemed to keep causing trouble and mayhem wherever they went and it was incredibly irritating to Derek. He couldn't understand why Scott had to be bitten or why the two boys had it out for him so badly. Sure, he was a little rough around the edges, but really all he had tried to do this whole time was help the kids out. He grumbled, silently fuming as he drove down the streets in Beacon Hills.
