Jess felt one more tear roll down her face before she jumped to her feet and ran. She didn't know where she was going but she had to leave. She needed to get away from Derek. She could hear Derek calling after her and even heard him running for a while but it had just started to rain and she made it far enough away from him that he lost her trail.
How could he have done this to her?
She ran all the way back to her house and quickly went inside grabbing only what she needed. She took her purse, filled with her credit cards and money, a change of clothes and a jacket before running out of the house again. She didn't stop running until she made it three towns over. She had made it far enough away that her heart only slightly ached.
Warthford was a town mostly composed of large forests and small country houses. She had always wanted to visit but it had been a little too far for her to go. She was surprised that she had actually made it this far and this fast. Jess shrugged on her jacket as she slowed to a walk once she passed the town line. She hadn't thought her plan out at all, to be honest. Running away had been a split decision but it was for the best. The Hales had ruined her life.
Jess walked until she saw a small gas station about a mile or two from the town line. There was a blue pick up truck at the pump but other than that, there wasn't a soul in sight. She walked into the gas station and instantly starting grabbing as many snacks as she could find. She stuck with the unhealthiest for now, because, well, screw it. As she held an arm full of unhealthy snacks she stopped and thought about what she was doing.
Of course she would have to go back. She did still have a job and school to get back to. She, even as a werewolf, had a future back in Beacon Hills. Jess would just have to find a way around Derek Hale. She placed all of her snacks on the gas station counter and a gruff looking man rang up all the food as she pulled her cell phone out of her pocket. She called her school and her job telling them not to expect her for a week and a half. After she finished, she stuffed her phone in her pocket and immediately stuffed her face with a ho-ho as she walked away from the small gas station in Warthford.
Derek paced in his new home. He had left the old Hale house behind, no longer safe from the hunters, and had found a new place to live. It was in the heart of the warehouse district and was conveniently hidden. It was a large space and was mostly empty except for the old subway train car that sat in the middle. He visited the Hale house at least twice a day in case Jess decided to show up. That would be the place she would go if she wanted to find him, he concluded.
It had been 12 days since Jess had run from Derek and his heart ached more and more each day. His skin crawled from not being able to be near her. He had had his new pack, Erica, Boyd, and Isaac out looking for her when they weren't training. 12 days and they hadn't picked up her scent yet.
Derek's head snapped up as the door to the warehouse opened and the pack walked in.
"Did you get anything?" Derek asked, trying not to sound anxious.
The pack didn't quite know what was going on or who they were looking for but they had noticed Derek was getting more and more upset the more days went by. They knew something was up when he had taken them all to the Hale house and got each of them to pick up a particular scent. The scent of another werewolf. A woman. Erica was put off immediately when she smelled another woman. She personally liked having Derek to himself and hoped they didn't find the girl.
"We found the scent", Boyd said shutting the door behind him.
"It lead into the woods about five miles from the hale house", Isaac said smiling a little as if he were a puppy pleasing his owner.
Erica waltz in and rolled her eyes, "I don't understand why we are chasing someone who obviously doesn't want to be found".
As soon as the words came out of Erica's mouth, the room went silent. Derek had his fists so tight that he was losing feeling in his hands. A growl ripped through the warehouse and Erica jumped and lowered her head to the ground.
"It doesn't matter if you don't understand", he spat at Erica, "What matters is that she is found".
The three nodded and stayed quiet waiting on orders from Derek.
Derek grabbed the leather jacket that hung on the old subway car and shrugged it on. He pushed past his new pack and turned towards them before he could exit the warehouse.
"Now, where did you find her scent?"
