WARNING: it's not depressing, don't worry

The rain is pounding against the window pane now. The TV is on low, replaying old episodes of Friends. Usually that show makes you laugh uncontrollably but you can't seem to find anything funny about it.

Then there's Dan. His eyes are closed as he rests his head against your couch cushions. His eyelashes look dangerously long with the outside trees casting shadows along his porcelain skin through the window.

The lights are off, the only light source coming from the television screen.

It's late. You asked him to come over for a reason but still haven't told him. He's asleep now. You're scared. Very scared.

You look down towards your stomach and wrap your cardigan across your torso.

The room is colder than normal, affects of the storm brewing within the night. You stand up and cross the room to the thermostat.

17 degrees Celsius. You crank it up to 20, keeping your hand on the nob. You're afraid to turn around, you know he's watching you.

"You okay?" Dan's voice is thick and raspy, causing you to turn around.

"Yeah." You say, sitting back down in the same place you were sitting before, opposite of him.

He just grins and sits up adjusting the pillows from underneath his head.

"Do you want to watch more of that anime we started?" Dan offers.

"Not today."

The air thickens which makes it almost impossible to breath in.

"Okay. Do you need me to make you hot chocolate?"

He knows you so well, but sadly his claim is incorrect this time.

"I'm not on my period."

Dan is always aware of when you're cranky or in need of sweets. One time he left you a pint of Cheese Cake flavored ice cream at your door because he knew it was that time of the month.

Sure he's super sweet and always there for you, but something is saying that it won't last much longer.

It's not that you've lost interest in him, you love Dan very much. It's just.. complicated.

"I mean, I wasn't necessarily implying that you were.."

The sound of thunder rattles the flat and it's almost like God is trying to encourage you. But it only makes things worse.

The darkness of the room makes you feel nostalgic for all the good times. Like when you had tickle wars on the carpet. Or the time you stayed up until 3:00 a.m. playing Monopoly. You ended up winning.

Your eyes shift to meet Dan's. Even though it's dark, you can still make out the brown pools of life that caught your attention oh so long ago.

And just like that, you burst out crying.

Dan immediately gets up and kneels in front of you placing his hands on both of your thighs.

"Hey, hey don't cry." He whispers trying to move the hair out of your eyes but you refuse his touch.

But out of no where, you grab his cheeks and kiss him hard. His fringe tickles your forehead ever so slightly. His lips are soft and taste like lip balm.

You let go but keep your forehead connected to his.

"Dan," you say between breathes, "I'm pregnant."

At first Dan doesn't exactly register what it is you just said. He kind of just chuckles, but then he raises his head, eyes wide.

"Wait..what did you just say?"

He isn't frowning but his lips aren't exactly resembling a smile.

But you laugh regardless, "I'm pregnant." You say again, this time louder.

The sky bursts into light and seconds later, a loud crackle erupts. Dan's body turns into a silhouette for a short amount of time as the lightning strikes.

As soon as you can see him again, his face is lit up with joy and surprise.

"So..you're not going to leave me?" You ask, unsure of where this puts you.

"Of course not. Why would I ever?" His eyes are still wide with shock, shifting down to your stomach.

Slowly he reaches out and touches it, gently pressing.

"I'd be a complete idiot to leave you, and besides, where would I even go?" He gives you a lopsided grin, showing off his sad dimple.

You shrug, "I don't even know. But I'd be so lost without you by my side. Sorry for being emotional."

Dan squeezes your hand in comfort, letting you know that he's there. Something that really warms your heart.

"Look, I feel like I maybe haven't shown how much I love you. I mean, you assuming that I'd leave kind of breaks my heart. But to show you how committed I am, I'd like to know if you'd marry me."

You stare at each other for a moment. You confused, him glowing.

"What do you mean marry me? Daniel James Howell, now is not the time for jokes."

You laugh, but he doesn't.

In one swift movement, he pulls a ring out of his pocket and presents it to you. Your eyes widen and you cover your mouth with both hands.

"Who said I was joking?"

I feel like I've done a lot of these kind of imagines but oh well.

I'm in a restaurant and they're playing Take On Me on the radio.

It's lit.
