It's been over a year. One whole fucking year. The worse whole fucking year you've ever lived.
Why? Because all you've seen on the internet is pictures of Dan and his friend Phil meeting loads of new people.
By now you shouldn't care. It's been so long since you've last seen each other. But nothing has changed.
And you can't help that. You've only been in love once and that once happens to be with him.
Love sucks. It really does.
You turn and slowly walk through the next aisle of the grocery store. It's not very often that you come here, but when you do, you try not to linger in the aisles that you and Dan used to browse in.
The thing about love is that it hits you in waves. And once that last wave hits, everything around you is left in devastation.
Places you once enjoyed going to are now destroyed with memories of him. Food you used to eat together no longer tastes right.
It just plain out sucks.
The frozen aisle is your favorite. It's where you'd go to get most of your dinner. Cooking was never your specialty.
But you've been trying to get better at it. Prove to yourself that you're stronger than this. Whatever this may be.
Tonight is going to be a lazy night though. Frozen pizza it is.
Pepperoni is the best kind of pizza. Anyone who says otherwise can get lost.
You reach for a box and shove it in your basket. It seems as if you've gotten all the necessary items you needed, so you go to checkout.
After paying for everything, you exit the building and wave down a taxi. Almost no one owns a car around where you live. It's too crowded on the roads to go anywhere and taxis are just too easy to avoid.
And are also always available, as one immediately approaches you. You climb into the backseat, give directions, and sit back.
The scenery of the outside world looks rather beautiful today. The skies are clear and not cloudy, the streets are alive with people, the buildings seem to be extra clean.
Something just feels good which is exactly what you need. A good feeling.
Your apartment complex looks rather dry though. What's new?
"Thank you." You tell the man in the front seat who only nods after taking your money. Rude.
He whisks away as soon as you step out with your stuff. You can't expect everyone to be perfect. Clearly.
The ride in the elevator up to your floor feels longer than usual for some reason. It's nearly the afternoon, yet it feels like the day has already come and gone.
You open up your purse and dig through it to find your keys. A loud ding signals you that the doors are opening.
Still digging around for some keys, you exit the elevator and into the hall. As soon as you find them you glance up.
Suddenly your heart drops into your stomach. You don't want to be here anymore. You want to run away, as far as possible. But your feet stay glued to the carpet.
Dan looks up at you from the floor. He looks tired. Exhausted, even.
Tears spring to your eyes as he stands up. He looks so good. His hair is shorter than it used to be. His skins smoother.
