Chapter 6 – The Heart of Gaea

Awkward silence fell among them right after Zabrina almost clarified things out for them. Van took a while to take in her words, which made his heart skip a beat. All of the things he knew, like the history of the seven siblings acquiring a portion of the rock, were all lies. When Zabrina caught him staring at her, he shifted his vision to the wooden floor, and cleared his throat to make a slight noise.

“Being a Rosewood, I know everything this Planet hides. I know every single detail about Gaea, and how the bloodlines were formed, ending to our present situation,” she said, staring blankly outside the window. “My husband’s surname was Farrell, and we got married few years ago. But things happened.”

Van was almost sure that he saw a tear formed in her right eye, but Zabrina quickly wiped it away.

“What happened to him?” Angelo’s gaze didn’t shift from Zabrina’s face.

“He died. He was killed by Hathorian guards, since they extracted some information about my whereabouts, yet he didn’t tell them.”

Jasmine gave slight gasp. “Wait, the guards really want you? But why would they do such thing if they only want the key from you?”

Zabrina smiled weakly. “Well, my dear, the key is a very important artifact, and it may shake the foundations of Gaea if it goes to the wrong person. And another reason why they want me, is because their goal is to kill all of the existing Rosewoods in our society.”

Van’s world almost stopped. “Wait, but why? That’s—“

“Cruel, I know.” Zabrina’s face turned darker. “But for them, that’s essential to keep their secret to our graves.”

Celeste spoke. “What secret? Oh my, these things are getting into my nerves.”

Zabrina paused for a while to gather her thoughts, and right after she did, she spoke. “Some information must be protected from getting out from our mouths. We are only the ones who know the dark history of the bloodlines, and the dark image of Hathor.” She looked at Angelo, regarding him as the leader of Ad Lucem. “Do you know the Crescent family?”

Angelo nodded his head. “The Crescents were the first royal family of Gaea, and the rumoured family who acquired the seven pieces of rocks.”

“Good. But aside from that, can you tell me more about them?” Zabrina asked another question, which made Angelo pause for a while.

“Well, as far as I remember, I was once informed that they pioneered they monarchy in Gaea.”

“That’s right. At first, Gaea had no governance: all of the people were free to gather from nature, and they enjoyed whatever the Planet provided for them. That time, the Rosewoods already existed, and they were already the masters of alchemy. During that time when the name of Rosewoods flourished, they had witnessed the crashing of a rock on a region of Gaea’s surface.”

Angelo’s eyebrows shot up. “So that means your bloodline really witnessed the crashing of the rock!”

Zabrina looked at him. “Yes, that’s right. And that rock was a size of a medium-sized house, which glowed like a mixture of ruby and emerald.

“As a family of alchemists, my ancestors studied its properties, and they discovered that it could heal sick people. Almost every day, the alchemists extracted minimal proportions from that rock, and provided miracles for the people of Gaea. Regarding Her as the personification of the Planet, they named it the Heart of Gaea, since they believed that Gaea had given Her Heart for Her worshippers.
