Alexandra was startled out of sleep by the ending of her strange dream.
"Jacob!" she yelled.
"What..." he muttered groggily, just waking up himself.
"Oh..." Alexandra whispered, turning toward Jacob.
"You are not alone..." A strange voice murmured.
Alexandra looked down at her shadow as it formed into a monstrous shape of a beast.
She reached for her sword before realizing it wasn't there. Desperately, she ran over toward the straw bed in the corner and pulled at the splintering leg of it. Once she managed to pull it off, she stabbed into the dark creature.
"You will never escape this place!" The creature hissed. "It is in-"
The shadow stopped itself and growled. "I've said too much..."
"Where are we!?" yelled Jacob, jumping onto the shadow and pushing it down. "Tell us!"
"No!"
Alexandra pushed the bed leg into the shadow.
"Yaaargh!" it screamed as it punched Jacob in the eye and caused him to flinch and let go of it.
The shadow grabbed Alexandra by the neck and threw her at the back wall.
"You are both fools! You will never esc-" The shadow was cut off by the pointed bed leg slamming it in the stomach and pinning it to the wall.
"Tell us where we are!" screamed Jacob, pulling another leg off of the bed and hitting the dark form in the head.
"F-fine... you will n-never escape anyway... y-you... are in a dimension beyond space... beyond t-time... past anything discovered by all of you pathetic humans! We sh-shadows, are the creators of the demented g-gateway!"
"What exactly is this 'Demented gateway?'" questioned Alexandra.
"You already know enough... It is my time to leave." it replied, melting into a pool of black.
"Enough with this. Time to get out." Jacob growled. "Stupid shadow..."
Jacob stomped on the pool of darkness, and he fell through and came up through another pool out side the door.
"Jacob!" screamed Alexandra, stepping back from the pool.
"I found the way out!" exclaimed, poking his head out of the pool. "Come on!"
Alexandra jumped through, and looked down the black-spotted hallway.
"Are you sure we're there yet?" she asked as a mammoth shook the building by running from spot to spot.
"Not really..."
They ran down the hallway, dodging random animals and other things flying past them, until they came to a stop at a large mahogany set of double doors.
"You ready?" asked Jacob.
"Definitely."
They pushed open the doors, and found themselves looking out onto the alley they came through to the orb, but something was wrong.
