Ok, so I was working on the story for today when, near the end of writing it, my computer kinda crashed. I was able to get it working again, but I lost the story and didn't have enough time to rewrite it.  So here's a story I wrote a year or so ago in its place.

Hidden within the darkest reaches of sky, beyond the smallest star; in a place where light never shines and color is unheard of, there once was a forest. A small wood of shadows, hidden behind a mountain of mountain of despair. And within this colorless forest of misery, hidden within the deepest part of the woodland, was a pond. An awfully small body of water, of which was only about 6 feet deep at most. But upon one cold, day; a day that seemed colder and duller then any could remember, the water began to ripple. It began as small movements, but soon enough the water began to ripple more and more, until the churning waters spun themselves completely out of their stillness, as something began to rise from the water.

The strange, humanoid figure rose completely out of the rapids. The person, a woman to be specific, stepped onto the surface of the water, a grey mantle shrouding them from view. They stretched their arms and yawned, as though they had awoken from a long sleep. They grinned, and began to trot across the surface of the pond, the water quickly growing still beneath their feet, as was everything around them. As the figure arrived on the ground, however, a powerful gust of wind blew in their face, and knocked their cloak off from around their shoulders. She whipped around and darted back onto the water's surface, chasing her shawl as the wind carried it higher and higher into the sky and out of her reach. She sighed and turned back towards the grass, then stopped. Her eyes widened as she saw what lay before her, something this desolate land had never known.

She saw color. Bright green grass danced on the land near the water's edge, while spots of pale, shimmering blue littered the once entirely grey water before her, forming a path that stretched out from the grassy edges of the pond, ending by her feet. She walked around the colored water in awe, her eyes never moving from the colored water before her, until a small noise caught her attention. She averted her eyes from the water to search for it, but didn't hear a thing except for the sound of the wind singing its hollow song. She began to walking, but soon stopped as the sound echoed within the air again. She narrowed her eyes again and took a small, cautious step forward. The sound filled the air again. She took another step and listened carefully as the ringing sound rang out once more; distinguishing it the sound of a small bell. She took another step, then looked down at her feet. Her eyes widened once more as she saw the once grey water a pale blue under her feet, just like the other spots of color on the pond. She turned around and instantly noticed that the path of colors had followed her, currently ending beneath her feet. She kneeled down and stared at the dull grey water before her and brushed her fingers across the surface. The bell sound rang out, and the greyness before her was replace with color. The water acted as a mirror; her reflection clear on its surface.

Her tan face was littered with small, brown freckles, while her long, curly, fiery red hair was filled with scattered streaks of sunlight gold. The almond shaped eyes that gazed back at her sparkled not with one color, but with all the colors of the rainbow. She rose to her feet and backed away until she could see her entire reflection. She was a lanky person, with freckles spreading down from her face to the rest of her body. She wore a loose, baby blue top with the sleeves ending right above her elbows, golden thread weaving its way from the bottom left corner of her shirt and weaving its way around the blouse to the top. A skirt, the color of the night sky, waved just above her knees as the wind blew this way and that, silver ribbon seeming to connect to the gold ribbon of her top, weaving its way down and around her skirt.. A ribbon of sunrise pink fading into sunset orange was tied between the two garments, a tight bow tied in the ribbon laying on her right side. A pair of pearly white knickers were visible just below her knees.

She gazed at herself for a moment, studying her appearance, before a thought sparked the flames of an idea within her mind. She grinned and, with eyes sparkling, she began to dart across the pond, the ends of the bow trailing behind her, along with a path of color. She dashed across the water, hearing the sound of the bell adding notes to a grand song with each step she took. She ran and ran until the entire pond was filled with color and light. She stood on the water's edge for a moment, admiring her work when another thought drifted into her mind, making her flame of ideas burn three times brighter. She jumped up and began to run once more, turning the dull grass green and filling the air with the sounds of the bell and her laughter. When she finished coloring the small field, she veered off into the woods, grazing her hand across every tree within reach of her fingertips. She ran through the entire forest, touching everything within her reach and filling the ground with brilliant greens and reds, dazzling golds and violets, and every other color imaginable. She then gazed up, and was met with a dull sky and leaves far out of her reach.

The girl narrowed her eyes, the gears in her mind turning as she tried to conjure up an idea. How was she supposed to reach the branches and leaves and sky when it was so far away? Then the flame in her mind grew brighter. She jumped up, and was able to touch only a bit of the bark above her head, coloring it brown. She leapt again, and touched the same piece of bark again. She tried again to touch what was out of her reach and failed again. She tried again, and again and again, and failed again, and again and again. She growled in annoyance, leaping and falling short once more. She landed back down on the ground, and looked down in thought. A few moments later, the flame of her thoughts grew brighter than ever. She bent down until she was at only half her height, and tensed. After a moment of stillness, she wiggled her hips, and jumped.

And up she went.

Higher and higher she went, brushing her fingers and toes against every leaf and branch on the tree, before she reached the highest point on the tree, but when she stopped moving up, she did not go down. She floated in midair. She smiled the widest smile she could as her eyes simultaneously filled with joy. She glided through the woods, filling each and every bit of life with color. The wood had never looked more beautiful. But when she had completed her work, she realized that something was missing. She glanced up at the lifeless, empty sky above her, then down at the colorful, lively forest below her, and then back at the sky again, when it clicked. The sky had no color. So, ever so cautiously, she reached her hand up to the sky...

...and a small, bell sound rang out.

She gazed up at the sky, and saw a small spot of light on a patch of navy blue in front of her. Her eyes lit up as she began fill the sky with these spots of light on their dark blue background, and smiled a mischievous smile. She began to create a large circle of light in the sky, not once lifting her fingers she filled it in entirely. She gazed upon the finished product in wonder for a moment, before looking down at her hands. She nodded to herself, triumph sparkling in her eyes, before she darted off to fill in the rest of the sky, energy never once leaving her as she filled the sky.
