This is a little scene from a story im currently working on that im planing on posting here...at some point...hopefully.
Ferris stared up at his celling, the dim light practically leaving them with nothing to see. The room could have been silent, if not for the gentle snores of his spectral companion sleeping in a corner near the window. Blue eyes attempted to find something in the celling above them, something new, something they had never really noticed before. But, like every time they studied it, they saw nothing but dull, dimly lit white celling. They yawned, stretching his Arms out slightly. They glanced at the clock on their nightstand, taking notice of the time. 3:02am it's poorly lit screen read. They turned their gaze back at the celling, slightly troubled. They knew they should probably be asleep by now, seeing as they had a big test tomorrow, among other things, but they was restless. This was not too uncommon, of course, seeing as it happened relatively often, but that never really made it any less annoying. They gazed down at his left hand, which lay calmly on his chest. They sat up slightly, and lifted his hand closer, studying it closely and calmly. Their watched as a familiar grey glow shrouded their hand, shifting into transparent tethers that wrapped around their hand loosely, just as they always had, and most likely always would. They watched as the shimmering chord moved from their hand, off his bed, and across the room to where a ghost contently slept. They studied the string as it appeared loosely around the figure's chest, right where it had always been, as the specter began to shimmer with the neutral grey of the chord around him. Ferris looked back at their hand, eyes narrowed and mind still, focused. They studied the grey shimmer around the string, watching and willing to move away from the rope and onto his hands, just as he had seen friends do it all their life. Behind them, a head popped from the wall, donning brown curls and a blue glow. She drifted into the room, taking notice of the person on the bed, drawing closer out of curiosity.
"You tryin' the light thing again, Fae?" They jumped, whipping their head around to meet a familiar set of green eyes. They relaxed, turning back to their hand once more before relpying.
"Oh, hey Laurel."
"For the last time, its not-you know what never mind. What are you doing up?"
"That depends, what are you?"
"I dont need sleep, Fae, we established this."
"Collien sure hasn't." Lauren glanced at the other person in the room.
"Yeah, Collin really does enjoy sleeping for someone who doesnt need to, but, once again, not the point-why are you trying that? And so late, no less?" They ignored her.
"...you know, you need sleep. You are still alive, after all."
"Uh huh, thats nice..."
"Fae, dont you have that test tomorrow? You should go to bed so you'll be ready for it!" Once again, no response. Lauren grumbled, annoyed at them for ignoring them.
"Fae go to bed."
"..."
"Fae, come on."
"..."
"Fae."
"..." She grabbed his hand, pulling it away from his hands and replacing it with her narrow-eyed glare.
"Ferris, go to bed. Now."
"Jiminy Cricket, Laurel, why the heck are you so concerned! Its not even that late!"
"Fae its 4:00 am."
"Oh."
"Look, i get that you want to get your light to work, but you need to get some sleep too. Its a very bit more important. Now, would you please just go to bed? You can do this in the morning."
"But its already morning."
"Oh, you know what i mean! Go to sleep!"
"Ok ok, fine, im going!" He fell back onto his bed, curling up in his blankets as Lauren remained nearby. It didn't take long for him to fall asleep.
