"so, how do you expect me to get up there?" i stated, folding my arms.

we both stared up at the large grey wall. the light in my bedroom was still on.

"i could climb back up with you on my back." jack suggested.

"wait, really?" i asked, raising my eyebrows. "you can do that?"

he nodded. "yeah." i watched him flex and giggled.

i quickly jumped on his back and squealed as he began to climb the wall.

"you okay?" jack asked, chuckling.

i squeaked in response, wrapping my arms around his neck loosely.

after a few slow minutes of climbing, jack crawled through my window and we fell to the floor.

"can you help me up?" he pleaded as i stood up. i glanced down to see him pouting.

i rolled my eyes and offered him my hand. i pulled him up and he fell into me, causing me to stumble backwards and fall onto my bed.

jack towered over me as i stared up at him. "fuck." he murmured. "the things i would do to you."

"are they things you'd do with your wife?" i asked innocently.

his eyes darkened. "i told you not to mention her." he snapped.

i rolled my eyes. "why shouldn't i? she exists and she's married to you. so why the hell are you here with me?"

"because..." jack paused.

"because what?" i snapped, sitting up and folding my arms.

"because... i don't have a reason, okay! i know we've only known each other for a few hours, but i like you!" he blurted out. "you're hot, funny, sarcastic and-"

i cut him off by quickly kissing him. it only lasted a few seconds before i pulled away and he whined, wanting more.

"i think you should go, okay?" i said, kissing his cheek. "we both have things to think about." i took his hand and led him to the window. "and you need to think about if you really want this."

"i don't need to think, i know-"

"shush. you need to think." i interrupted. he sighed and nodded.

"can i at least get your number so i can contact you?" he asked hopefully.

i hesitated for a moment, before putting my number in his phone.

it can't hurt, can it?

i watched him climb out of the window before shutting it and pulling across my curtains.

i was just getting back in bed when i heard a knock on my door. "come in." i called.

luke opened the door, yawning, and glanced around my room. "were you talking to someone?" he asked.

"what're you talking about?" i lied smoothly. "you must've been dreaming. i've been watching netflix. maybe you heard that?"

luke frowned. "i swear i heard talking. and not from your laptop."

i shrugged. "sorry lucas. you might be imagining things."

he shook his head and made his way out of my room.

"hey, can you turn off my light?" i quickly asked before he had left.

"why can't you do it?" he complained.

"because i'm too lazy and you're already there." i replied smartly.

luke rolled his eyes and flicked the light switch before closing my door.

"thankyou brother!" i sung, hearing him chuckle as he made his way back to his room.

i opened my laptop again to continue watching freaks and geeks.

a few minutes later, i heard my mother and luke talking, almost as if they were right outside my door.

"yeah mum, i went in a couple minutes ago. she's fine." luke stated.

"i heard something!" my mother then gasped. "what if she had a boy in her room? did you check under her bed?"

i rolled my eyes.

"mum, she's alone. i'm sure of it." luke replied sternly.

"how can you be sure?" my mother snapped. "she could've had someone in her closet! what about behind the curtains?!"

i heard luke sigh. "do you want to check and wake her up?"

she didn't say anything but i knew my mother was frowning.

"i'm going back to bed. don't let me hear any more noise coming from either one of you!" she scowled.

i heard her footsteps walking away from my door. it was then opened and i saw the shadow of luke's head.

"you're welcome." he simply stated.

he closed the door and i smacked myself on the head. it was stupid of me to invite jack into my room. luke was literally metres away and all that was between us was a wall.

next to me, my phone vibrated, and my screen lit up.

unknown - hey, it's jack

ruby - that was fast

jack - i know...

ruby - are you even home yet?

jack - no

i rolled my eyes and typed out a reply.

ruby - don't text and drive, dumbass

jack - i'm at a stoplight rn

jack - and i've decided

ruby - no you haven't

ruby - you've known me less than 12 hours and you've been married for years

ruby - this isn't a quick decision

jack - why are you rejecting me?

ruby - i'm not. i'm just worried about your marriage

jack - :(

jack - i miss you

ruby - well it's a good thing you didn't stay any longer, my brother heard us and came in

ruby - i told him i was just watching netflix but i don't think he believed me

jack - oh shit

ruby - i'm tired

jack - talk to me tomorrow, okay? x

ruby - bye jack

i turned off my phone and buried my head in my pillow, closing my eyes. thoughts of the man i'd known for less than a day swarmed through my head as i began to drift into sleep.
