ruby
my emotions were at an all time high, and i couldn't think of anything else to distract me.

after i kissed jayden, i felt his body tense slightly, but within seconds he relaxed and began to kiss me back.

i ran a hand through his shaggy hair, tugging on it slightly, causing him to release a throaty moan.

"ruby, i-"

i pulled away and looked at him. his blue eyes were staring straight at me.

"w-why are you doing this?" he asked quietly.

"jay, i really need this right now." i replied, tugging at his shirt. "please." i begged. "distract me."

he chewed on his bottom lip. "but i don't want to do this and you regret it later."

i shook my head. "no." i whispered. "i won't. i promise."

with those words, jayden leaned forward and reattached our lips. within seconds, he wrapped his arms around me and leaned back, laying on the bed.

he tugged at my shirt and i broke the kiss to quickly pull it off.

jayden looked at me. "are you sure?"

i didn't respond, i just leaned in to kiss him again.

jack
i sat on my floor, head in my hands. after arriving home, and ignoring my wife, i grabbed a beer from the fridge and chugged it.

i was now sat on the floor, next to my couch, several empty beer bottles littered around me.

"jack, i'm having the girls over tonight." i heard helen coming down the stairs.

she gasped as she saw me.

"jack! what the hell are you doing?" she exclaimed, running over. she attempted to grab my hand and pull me up.

i groaned.

"jack! get up!" she yelled.

"why bother?" i snapped. "what's the point?" i yanked my hand away from her.

"i already told you! the girls are coming over in twenty minutes! get your shit together or get out!" she shrieked.

i glared at her. "helen, if your stupid brain didn't already realise, you don't have a job. last time i checked, i'm the one who brings in the money and this is my house!"

her eyes widened.

"so i think you should get out!" i yelled, pointing to the door.

"j-jack, you know i d-didn't mean it. don't make me leave." she pleaded.

i rolled my eyes.

"i'm your wife!" she exclaimed. she then touched my arm gently. "come on, baby." she tried.

i scoffed. "baby? you and i both know that's not us anymore."

she frowned. "you want it that way? fine. i'll leave. but don't call me when you get lonely."

i watched her storm upstairs, muttering curses under her breath. within minutes, she walked back down, carrying several large bags.

"i'm giving you one last chance, gilinsky." she stated. "one last chance before i walk out that door forever."

i stood up and walked over to her. her eyes widened as i stepped closer.

"delete my number and never talk to me again." i stated calmly. "now get out."

she huffed and stalked out of the house, leaving me alone, but satisfied.

i slumped on the couch and rubbed my aching head. i grabbed one of the near empty bottles and chugged it, the alcohol flowing down my throat easily.

i sighed and ran a hand through my hair. i stood up, jingling my keys as i walked towards the door. i stepped outside and quickly locked up, just incase helen tried to sneak back in.

ignoring my car, i jogged down the street, in the direction of ruby's house.

she may have told me we were over mere hours but right now i didn't care.

i needed to see her.

i continued to run, speeding up to a sprint as i neared her house. as i turned the corner, her house appeared in my sights, edging me on.

within seconds i was back to the same wall i had been to many a time.

i stared up at it, my vision beginning to blur slightly. looks like the alcohol was finally starting to set in.

i grabbed onto the wall and began to hoist myself up, ignoring the aching pain in the back of my head.

my hands were killing me, but after a few minutes, i was at her window.

but what i saw almost made me fall backwards.

my eyes were locked on ruby's bed, and the two people on it.

ruby was on her back, in nothing but her black lace panties. the guy on top of her...

from the park.

from the carnival.

that dickhead.

i clenched my fists as i watched the almost naked bastard making out with her.

he pulled away and said something that i couldn't quite make out due to the thick glass separating us. whatever he said made ruby smile and nod.

he leaned over and picked something up off the floor. i saw the shiny wrapper and my eyes widened.

no...

it was supposed to be me. i was going to be the one. i had to be the one.

but there was nothing i could do.

i sighed and quickly climbed down the wall, trying to shake the thoughts of what i just saw from my head.

well, not all of them.

the vision of her, laying vulnerable in barely any clothing...

i shuddered.

when i reached the ground, i began to run away. at first, i didn't know where i was running, i just knew i had to get away.

after fifteen minutes, i had to stop to take a breather. i leaned up against a brick wall to catch my breath.

i glanced across the road to see a glowing neon sign.

a bar?

that seemed to be exactly what i needed.

alcohol was often what i turned to when times were tough. i'd been drinking ever since i was fifteen and my parents divorced.

i wiped the sweat off my forehead and stumbled across the road.

i pushed open the door and breathed in the smell of alcohol and cigarette smoke with a faint hint of vomit.

i made my way up to the bar.

"give me a glass of whiskey, and keep 'em coming." i told the bartender, slamming my money on the bar. "i need all of my feelings to go away."
