"money is on the counter, don't spend it all unless it is an emergency. i also want to come home to a clean house."

my mother had been droning on with rules i already knew for the past ten minutes.

"and no one, i mean no one should be coming over this weekend." she snapped.

i nodded. luke pulled me into a tight hug.

"i'll see you in two days luke, calm down." i managed to croak out.

he ruffled my hair and sent me a smile. "see ya kiddo. have fun."

i watched as luke picked up both of their baggage, then they walked down the driveway to the car. i felt a pang of regret when i saw jayden waiting for them.

i didn't get a chance to explain everything to him.

i'll text him later.

i shut the door and immediately turned on the tv, flopping onto the couch and sighing.

i channel-surfed until i came across south park, a show i loved that mother deemed 'inappropriate'.

i smiled to myself as i snuggled up in a warm blanket, watching the cartoon and laughing.

next to me, my phone chimed and i picked it up, curious to see who was messaging me.

jack - what time should i come over? x

ruby - can you come tomorrow? we can spend the day together

jack - sounds good to me ;)

i then typed out a text to jayden, even though i knew he was still driving my mother and brother and wouldn't be able to respond for a while.

ruby - hey jay, do you wanna come over this arvo so we can talk?

surprisingly, he replied within minutes.

jayden - definitely

ruby - are you texting while driving?

jayden - uhhhh no

ruby - >:(

jayden - babe i had to reply

i glowed slightly at the word 'babe' even if it was just in a text.

jayden - i'll see you at 6, okay?

ruby - okay :)

i smiled satisfactorily, switched off my phone and resumed watching tv.

"pizza!" i heard someone yell, whilst knocking on the door.

i grinned, grabbed the money and skipped over to the door, opening it to reveal...

"hey!" jayden grinned at me.

"i thought you were pizza." i pouted, folding my arms.

"aren't i better than pizza?" he asked, walking inside. i raised my eyebrows.

"nothing and no one is better than pizza." i simply stated.

jayden chuckled and sat down on the couch. "alright. you need to explain some shit." he said, suddenly serious.

i nodded and sat down with him.

"well, after you dropped me off, i came inside and my mum yelled at me for not calling, then took ellie outside. i got really mad but you know my mum." i sighed. "she was the one who threw her out. i would never."

jayden smiled slightly. "it's nice to hear you say that. and i mean, it was only a stuffed animal. i can buy you things with ten times more value." he stated. "like... chocolates and flowers and a-a-a ring." he muttered.

i pretended not to hear his last few words. sure, i liked jayden, but engagement or anything was definitely off the tables.

the doorbell rang and i stood up. "this better actually be the pizza."

i opened the door and saw a lanky blonde boy with a red cap and my pizza in his hands. as i handed him his money, i stared at him, thinking about how familiar he looked.

"keep the change." i smiled, taking my pizza from him.

"hold on. you're that girl! that girl from a few weeks ago at the royale with the bitchy mother!" he exclaimed, making me giggle.

"yep, i guess that's me." i mused.

"well, considering she interrupted me so rudely that night, i should continue what i was saying. my name's jack." he smiled.

images of jack gilinsky flashed through my mind and i gulped.

"n-nice to meet you. i'm ruby." i smiled back at him. "thanks for the pizza."

jack grinned and adjusted his cap. "thanks for the tip." he winked and walked away.

i shut the door and flopped on the couch, opening the pizza box and taking a slice.

"you got pineapple? ew." jayden cringed as he surveyed my pizza toppings.

i gently shoved him. "hey. pineapple is god's gift to man kind." i stated.

jayden chuckled.

"don't hate it til you try it." i remarked, taking a bite of my slice.

i watched as he swiftly took a slice from the box and ate it. i immediately smacked his arm.

"hey! my pizza!" i complained.

he took another bite and shot me a wink. "whoops."

i rolled my eyes.

"you're right though." jayden commented, licking his fingers. "it is actually good."

"a-ha! i knew you'd like it!" i exclaimed triumphantly, making him chuckle.

we both sat in silence for a second, the only noise being south park, still playing on the tv.

"so, since i dropped your mum off, i guess you're alone for the weekend?" jayden reminded me with a cheeky grin.

i shrugged. "i guess i am."

he didn't say anything but i presumed i knew what he was thinking.

"do you want to stay the night?" i offered, taking a bite of pizza, very unattractively.

his face lit up and he nodded. "d-do you mind?"

i shook my head. "nope. it'd be nice to not be alone, honestly."

satisfied with my answer, jayden wrapped his arm around me and pulled me closer to him as we laid down on the couch.

staring at the tv, i felt my eyelids starting to droop, until arms around my torso jolted me awake.

"ssh, it's okay. i'm just taking you to your room. which one is it?" jayden asked softly. he was carrying me bridal style and stood in front of mine and luke's bedroom doors.

"that one." i said sleepily, raising a hand weakly to point at my door.

jayden opened it and gently set me on the bed, before turning off the lights. in the shadows, i could see him taking off his shirt, before coming over and curling up next to me.

he wrapped his arms around my cold body and pressed a small kiss to my neck.

"night." he whispered.
