i applied one last coat of my dark red lipstick, before putting the cap back on and grabbing my black purse.

i smoothed down my nude figure-hugging dress, before slipping into my black heels and flashing a smile at my reflection.

i made my way down the stairs to see my brother stood there in a black tux.

"damn, luke!" i exclaimed, giggling and making him laugh. "look at you!"

"hey, shut up. you aren't looking half bad." he chuckled.

"how far off is mum?" i asked.

as if she was listening in, my mother appeared at the top of the staircase in a bright yellow dress. surprisingly, the colour didn't look half bad on her.

she glided down the stairs, which surprised me due to her five inch silver heels.

"let's go!" she snapped, looking us both up and down, before walking briskly to the door.

we all walked down to the car. my heart began to quicken. it'd be my first time seeing jayden since we hung out on saturday.

he opened the door and my mother and brother stepped into the car as he smiled at them politely. he glared at me coldly and i immediately felt confused.

"jay, wh-"

i felt him push me into the car, firmly, but gently as not to hurt me.

the door slammed shut and within thirty seconds the car started.

"apparently they've hired a new chef at the royale." my mother stated. "i'm looking forward to tasting his work."

luke murmured something in agreement, but i was staring out of the window, lost for words.

i had no clue why jayden was so angry. he didn't text me after he left my house, but i just assumed he'd been busy.

did something happen?

i then frowned.

did jack do something?

after around ten minutes, the car stopped and the door was opened again. i climbed out and turned to jayden.

"jayden, why're you so mad? what did i do?"

he scowled. "i dunno, maybe throw away ellie?" jayden scoffed.

my mother and luke climbed out of the car and began to walk towards the door.

"what?" i replied quietly, confused.

"i saw the trash being taken away, ruby. the elephant was in there." jayden sighed. "i really thought we had a good time."

"jay, no! i wouldn't do that. it was my mum, she-"

"ruby! come now!" my mother snapped loudly.

"i'll explain this all later. please don't be mad." i quickly told jayden. he smiled a small smile at me before i rushed off.
