"Thank you," she said after drinking a bit.Her voice was still raspy but she could talk. I stood and grabbed one of the potions Theo left for her.
"You need to drink this," I muttered, taking the lid off the vile.
"What is it?" She asked, eying it suspiciously.
"Blood replenishing potion," I replied. "Theo left it for you."
She nodded and took the potion from me. It took her a moment to drink it.
"How did he know how to help me?" She asked.
"He's a healer," I replied. "He works at St. Mungos."
"Oh... that makes sense... send him my thanks," she said.
"He told me you can't eat anything solid for a week and you will cough more blood," I told her. "You need to take that potion every six hours. Just a heads up."
"Sorry," she muttered.
"For what?" I asked, confused.
"All this, especially so close to your birthday," she replied.
"How do you know my birthday?" I asked.
She pointed to the calender.
"Dark green ink spelling Draco's birthday was a dead give away," she replied with a smile.
"You know this isn't your fault, neither of us could have seen this coming," I told her.
She looked down.
"Something wrong?" I asked.
"It's just... I knew something was wrong. I didn't think it was serious enough that I needed to tell you. I thought it was just a stomach ache," she confessed.
I was shocked at this new piece of information.
"Hermione, you need to tell me stuff like this so I can help you," I told her. "If you are in pain I can help but only if you tell me."
"I..I.. just thought I was fine-"
"Hermione I need you to tell me when your hurt," I told her. "I don't want this happening again, you almost died."
"It wouldn't matter anyway, if I died," she muttered.
"Hermione!" I yelled, accidentally scaring her. "Don't talk like that!"
"But it's true!" She replied.
"Hermione! You matter! You are on this earth for a reason! People love you!"
"Like who? Ron is a death eater, the rest of the Weasley's are dead, Harry's dead, Luna's dead! Who else could possibly love me?" She asked, angry tears streaming down her cheeks.
"I love you," I told her.
She started at me, disbelief in her eyes. I gently moved my hands to her face and brushed away the tears. She continued to stare at me but I didn't miss how she lightly leaned into my touch.
"Hermione, are you alright?" I asked softly.
"I love you too," she whispered.
I couldn't stop the smile from my face. The smile instantly dropped when Hermione started coughing. I summoned a small trash can and held back her hair as she coughed blood.
I pat her back until she finished. I made the trash can vanish and wiped Hermione's mouth. She leaned on me looking tired. Her hand was setting on her stomach and she had her jaw clenched.
"Are you okay?" I asked.
"Yeah, I'm fine," she muttered.
She closed her eyes and gripped my shirt sleeve. It wasn't seconds before I was supporting all her weight and her grip slacked.
I slowly laid her down and put the covers over her. She was still holding her stomach so I placed a charm on her. She literally couldn't feel any pain for an hour.
~*~*~
"So her stomach tore?" Blaise asked.
"Yeah, she almost died. I need to add that to the list of things I owe Theo," I replied.
"Is she okay?" He asked, looking at her.
"Theo said she would be fine but he gave me a list of things I have to do to keep her safe err stable I guess," I said, running a hand through her hair.
I would do anything to protect her. I would do anything to keep her safe.
"Has she woke up yet?"
"Twice, and I feel bad because the thinks it's her fault. Theo told me nothing could have prevented it and we couldn't have seen it coming over twenty four hours before it happened," I replied.
We both stopped talking when Hermione shifted.
"Draco?" She muttered, her eyes still closed.
"Yes?"
She muttered something I couldn't understand before she relaxed and fell back asleep.
"Does your mum know she's hurt?" Blaise asked.
"Nope," I replied.
He was quiet for a moment.
"Do you know what your doing for your birthday?" He asked.
"Not sure-"
I was cut off by a searing pain on my arm.
"Blaise... can you watch after Hermione? I'm being summoned," I asked.
"Yeah, sure," he replied.
"Without inviting anyone over?" I continued.
"Yes, just go before you anger him!" Blaise said.
I apparated.
Blaise
As soon as Draco left Hermione started coughing. Blood spilled from her mouth and she opened her eyes. I helped her sit up trying to keep myself from panicking.
"Water," she choked.
"Yeah, I'll be right back," I said, rushing from the room.
When I came back Hermione stopped coughing and wiped off her lip. I handed her the glass it shook in her hands.
"Thank you," she muttered, her voice cracking.
She drank half her water and sat the glass on the side table.
"Are you alright?" I asked.
"I'm fine," she replied.
"Do you need anything?" I continued.
"Where's Draco?" She asked instead.
"He's on a mission. He'll be back in a few," I replied.
She put her hand on her stomach and turned it into a fist.
"You should take him out for his birthday," she said suddenly, before her jaw clenched and her hand tightened.
"Are you alright?" I asked.
She opened her eyes.
"I'm fine," she muttered.
"Is your stomach hurting?" I continued.
"A bit, but I'm fine," she replied.
I rolled my eyes and charmed her stomach. She visibly relaxed.
"Thank you," she sighed."How have you been?" I asked.
She gave me a look that told me I was an idiot.
"Right, stupid question," I muttered.
We sat in awkward silence for a while.
I was more than relieved when Draco walked through the door.
