[Edryn's pov | The woods]
I woke up with a start, jolting up and almost hitting my head on the top of my makeshift shelter. I blinked for a second, staring at my small hands for a moment as I thought over where I was.. Why am I..... Oh. Shit.
Memories of the attack flooded my tiny little dwarf mind and I scowled. That's right, they were all killed. They were all killed, and that leaves me. Dad, dead. Mom, dead. My entire clan, dead. Well, almost my entire clan is dead. There is still me, so that's something I guess.
Yawning and standing up, I grabbed the bag that my father had given to me before I left and exited my little hut. It was like a little hut, one I put leaves over for camouflage. It had worked well for the night, and it was fast and easy to make.
Stretching my arms over my head, I began to walk. I didn't know where I was going, I never learned about the world outside ours. Did these people use magic to or is it just our clan? Are they.... normal?
Sighing and shaking my head, I continued on.
[Kakashi's pov | The woods]
I sighed as I trudged through the woods. I had a mission. Someone had crossed into the large border surrounding Konoha, but they were... odd. The Hokage said that he only felt a person and something else pass over, not a person and chakra.
Maybe it was a glitch, or just a weird animal or something. But he's ordered me out here. It could take hours to sweep the are around Konoha, and I'll probably have to do it twice! Today was supposed to be my day off, and yet here I am, out in the hot woods, looking for something that may not even exist.
"Damn you short legs!"
'...Never mind, maybe it does exist.' I sweat dropped to myself, jumping up into the trees and jumping towards the sound of the voice. It sounded.... It sounded like a teen perhaps, possibly a child.
When I got there, he had to stop myself from gaping. There, standing below me and glaring at a tree root, was a girl only four feet tall. Normally I would've freaked out because, well, that's the height of a child. But this kid... this kid was definitely not a child. While they were short, they looked like a teen.
"I thought we were friends, and here you go pulling that?" She asked the tree root. Well it just so happens that I was in the tree she was speaking to, and it also just so happens that I almost fell out, not expecting the tree to droop as though it.... as though it were sad.
Her head suddenly snapped in my direction and I froze, keeping my body completely still. Her eyes narrowed and her nose twitched as though she were sniffing the air. Finally, she blinked, "You can come down. I know you're there."
Knowing I'd been caught, I jumped down. My large frame absolutely towered over her small one. She didn't look intimidated, only curious. And I was curious to, how could one be so small? "So this is what a normal person looks like." She awed, staring up at me.
"...Uh." I sweat dropped at her as she compared our height. "I like, only come up her your waist!" She exclaimed. "...Right. Why are you so close to Konoha?" I asked, actually remembering what I supposed to do. This girl had something in her, but it wasn't chakra.
"What's a Konoha?" She questioned, confused. "It's my village. My ninja village." I said, staring down at her. She looked surprised. "Ninja are real?" She asked in disbelief, "Well, I'll be damned."
"...What are you?" I finally asked, honestly wanting to know. "Why I'm a dwarf, the last dwarf, actually. My clan was attacked by another ancient clan that had managed to survive the old ages." She said. Kakashi blinked owlishly. Dwarves, the things he heard in children's books, were real?
"...Please tell me you're joking." I said. "Does it look like I'm joking?" She asked, raising a brow. "...No, but it's hard to take you seriously." I sweat dropped. "Don't underestimate short people, let alone dwarves. Seriously, the smaller, the more lethal." She said calmly.
I shivered a bit.
"Right. Well, where are you headed?" I asked. I knew I'd have to bring her back, she's a dwarf, has no chakra, and her clan was just murdered. "I have no idea." She shrugged, "I am but a small, fourteen year old dwarf, destined to live in the woods forever."
"Not on my watch." I said with a closed eye smile before picked her up and throwing her up on my shoulders, taking off into the trees.
