CHAPTER 9

I was definitely not getting any sleep now.  As much as I tried, as much as I tossed and turned in my bed, I still could not sleep.  As much as I hated to admit it, I was really worried for Jacob.  No scratch that, I was scared shitless for Jacob.

I don’t know what happened or why after twenty-five minutes of waiting he still never called me back, but I need to know, now!  I got up out bed, pushing my achy body to the extreme just by sitting up and put some grey sweats on, my uggs, and a hoodie over my head.   I left my bedroom without a hesitation and walked my way down the stairs and into the living room.  Only problem was that I ran into someone I didn’t expect to run into.

“Oh, hey mom.” I said startled.

She was sitting on the couch, looking very tired but happy to see me while eating a donut and sipping a beer.

“Hi mommie.” she said.

“Eww what are you eating?” I asked with a disgusting face expression.

“My snack.” she replied while taking another big bite of her donut and another huge swig of her beer.

“Oh god.  How can you eat that?  Shouldn’t you drink some water with that?  Or milk or juice?  Anything else!?”

“What’s wrong with my beer?”

I could not help but laugh because she was serious about the two going together.

“Mom those do not mix well.  That’s like putting orange juice in a bowl of cereal.”

“You ever tried it?” she asked.

“Um no.”

“Okay then.  Then you can’t say it is disgusting.”

I shook my head in amusement and continued to walk to the front door.

“Um, where are you going?” my Mom asked me.

If I told her I was heading to Jacob’s house, a boy and someone she does not know, the answer will be a hell no before I could blink.  I need to lie.

“I have to get something from Dee’s house for school tomorrow.”

“Well it’s late now Mel.  You need to wait until tomorrow.”

Panic spread through me.
