CHAPTER 16

Deep down I knew there was something wrong.  That much was obvious, but I did not know what to do to handle the situation.  A part of me did not want him to leave.  Lord only knows what he could get himself into when he is this upset.   This was a completely different person that I was looking at.  Even as we walked up the sidewalk towards my front door he looked different.  His stride showed how tense his broad arms really were, and the clenching fists weren't helping my nerves right now either.

“You know you really don’t have to do this.  I can go hang out at a friends house or something.” he spoke.

His voice scared me because for the past five to ten minutes of leaving the school and driving to my house it was dead silence.

“No it’s okay.  Really.  Dinner should be almost ready anyway.  Are you hungry?”

He nodded his head as in no but he is an eighteen year old athlete.  I know his ass is hungry.  My little brother is only twelve and eats every damn thing in the house.  I gave him a questioning look and smiled a little.

“Yeah okay.  My ass.”

The Jacob that I know gave a little smile in agreement.  We walked in the door and as I guessed food lingered through the whole house.

“Melanie is that you?” I heard a voice coming from the kitchen.

“Yeah Mom it’s me.”

I put my bag on the couch and turned to Jacob and whispered,” Just follow my lead okay?”

He raised an eyebrow in confusion.  Just when we was about to question me my mom came walking in the room.  She must have went to work today because her hair was curled and she had her red lipstick on.  Her jeans showed that she changed out of her work clothes to get comfy.  Her eyes connected with mine in a stern way, probably about to scold me when she noticed the boy standing next to me.

“Oh hello.” my mom said.

“Mom this is Jacob.  My friend who gave me a ride.  He wanted to come and meet everyone.” I lied.
