POV. Brooke

22 September 2036

I am Brooke Walker and this is my story. Right now I am fifteen years old and that is when everything started. In May the government told us that the world was overpopulated. 22th of June they let loose the virus that would kill some of us. They said: just enough to survive, but something bad happened. Instead of killing 65 percent of the population the Robots they build turned against us. They did not only kill our people but brought some of them back to life as murderous corpses. They target the people over 25 first, so I watched my entire family die in front of me. First my mom, she was going to our neighbors to bring their sick child some of her soup when she was attacked by an infected person. At first there was nothing going on with her. But after 24 hours she started vomiting blood and from there it was going downhill fast. She was turning crazy, the virus affected her brain as well. One night a gunshot woke me up. I ran as fast as I could to the bedroom of my parents. When I was about to walk in he opened the door and quickly closed it after he left the room. We both stood there watching each other. I knew what had happened, my father shot my mother. I started crying and ran past my protesting dad and opened the door. What I found wasn't pretty but it was the cold hard truth, right in my face. All I saw was blood and the weird position my mom's body was in. She looked weird, she didn't even look like the woman that brought me a goodnights kiss every time I went to bed or the woman who cared for me when I wasn't feeling well. I turned around and told myself that I was not going to cry for a woman who didn't look like my mom. Dad stood there in the dark watching every move I made, but I didn't show him that I was disgusted, scared or sick of the sight in that room. "Honey you should pack your bags; take only the things you really need. Do you understand Brooke? Only what you need, no nonsense. Brooke look at me when I talk to you!" the last he yelled at me, I looked up to his face and nodded as I knew my voice wasn't to be trusted.

In my room I grabbed lots of clothes, a flashlight, food, drinks, my mom's necklace, some money, a picture of the three of us and a stash tampons. I still am a girl, I need those. When I left my room I looked one last time around and closed the door. My dad was already waiting by our car and I saw he had brought a lot of guns I didn't even know we had and some survival kits (a tent, food, water, first aid kit, etc.). A single tear left my eye as we drove off to the forest. "Man up Brooke, I know life sucks right now but it doesn't change a bit when you cry, you only make it harder for yourself and me." "Well mister I am sorry I hurt your feelings, but I just lost my mother and my home and I can't stand the man you have become." I know it wasn't fair, but I couldn't hear another command of him. "Shut up Brooke, you are not the only one with a tough time, you are not some sad, helpless little girl. You are going to man up and if you don't, leave right now because you are going to get us both killed with this attitude."

This was the beginning of the cracks in our relationship. He became an emotionless person; he didn't talk to me like he used to before.

After a few hours we were deep in the forest anddecided to set camp in a clearing. We got out of the car and took theessentials with us. We walked cautiously towards the clearing and heard some voices."You take this, and go around. Shoot if you are in danger." These were the lastwords of my father before he left me there with a gun.

Yes yes! Beginning this wonderful story with some feels!
