POV Brooke
Sam sat very still behind some bushes. He looked a bit pale. "You okay Sam?" he looked up and swiftly nodded. He wasn't trained for this. He looked like a fragile spooked deer hiding from the hunters. I went over to the others. "Guys, we need to look out for Sam, he ain't trained like us. "He's totally fine" Cain was either unbelievably blind or stupid, because everyone could see he was a snap away from having a nervous breakdown. I rolled my eyes at him and walked away. I sat down when I thought I heard something. Some branches snapped. I crouched over to the others and quickly covered Hugo's mouth who was telling Cain to stop acting like an idiot. They all instantly got down. I pushed myself onto the ground as hard as I could. Hell, I even held my breath. We laid for like five minutes in these uncomfortable positions until we thought we were safe. We got on our knees. "Let's move" Hugo mouthed. I looked around the group when I noticed Sam wasn't there. I pinched Mad. She turned her head, clearly irritated by me pinching her, she raised her brows. "Sam?" I mouthed. She looked around and I saw her expression change when she couldn't find him. What if he has gotten himself into some shit. Because we were searching for him, we forgot to look where the boys went. "Shit" I looked irritated to the sudden sound Madison made. I put my finger on my lips when I saw why she scolded. I wanted to facepalm myself so bad. It couldn't get any worse... right? Madison smirked at me. How could she be laughing? We lost Sam first and then the rest of the squad. The bushes began to shake and Mad and I both jumped behind the first trees we could find. What is that sound? It was a fast and raspy noise. Madison peeked around her tree and instantly began walking towards the noise. Still unsure about the situation I followed her very cautiously. "Atlas!" Madison exclaimed happily. The dog ran towards her filled with joy and I instantly relaxed. "Hey boy" I smiled at the sight of the two weirdos'. "Mad, we need to move. We've lost track of the boys and we still haven't found Sam. It'll be dark soon." "Yeahh, about that. How do we know Sam's not found yet, by the boys I mean?" "I don't know, but we can't stop here, can we?" "it's getting dark fast. Here we have plenty of cover and we can run from any danger. The only problem is that it's a bit chaotic here, with all the plants and trees." "I'll take the first watch, maybe Atlas will join." Madison smiled thankfully and plated her ass on the ground. She laid her backpack under her head and took hold of a knife, which she planted in her right hand. I don't remember the last time I fell asleep without having a gun under my pillow. I was listening to the sounds of the trees in the wind when Atlas began to softly whine. "What is it?" I took my gun of the safety pin and looked through the scope. "I don't see anything boy" I petted him and scanned the area one last time. Back at my beloved lookout post, a fallen tree, I sat down. I was so tired. I couldn't close my eyes, not yet. Madison was asleep for an hour now, but before that she was turning and mumbling. "I hope the boys are okay" Atlas put his head on my lap as a response and I started to pet him. I was dozing off when Atlas was growling. I grabbed my gun and ran towards the spot where Atlas had disappeared. "Mad! Wake up" she jumped at my screaming but she was very quick. She grabbed her bag and sprinted after me. "What's the rush?" "Atlas growled at something and then began chasing it. I don't know what happened? isn't he like trained to stay back when there are walkers?" "He is. I don't know what has gotten into him." We ran after the dog and after a while he stopped and sat down next to a backpack. "I'll cover you" Mad nodded and cautiously walked over to the pack. She took hold of the label "It's Hugo's", a shadow fell over her face. Out of nowhere there were bullets. One scratched my arm. "AARGH this hurts like hell!" we pushed ourselves to the ground and hoped the symphony of bullets flying around would stop. "Atlas, why didn't you warn us?!" Madison yelled at him. Probably because he wouldn't be able to hear her otherwise. I crawled towards her and we decided to use the long grass to crawl towards safer grounds. We started, but soon heard walkers coming from that direction. "Shit, what do we do now?!" Suddenly there was some backfire. "The boys!" I mouthed enthusiastically. Madison smiled and we crouched towards the bush line. We looked over the tips of the grass and found Sam, Hugo and Cain looking badass as fuck, shooting walkers and the unknown source of backfire. "Hi" Madison said very nonchalant. I nodded to the boys and grabbed my rifle. I scooped the area and saw a familiar body, I just couldn't place my finger on it, yet. "Hugo! C'mere. Look at the guy on the far left, he looks familiar, doesn't he?" he took my rifle and looked through the scope. I don't know he just looks like a crazy Spaniard shooting us and the zombies. "That's it!!! Stop shooting, only the walkers from now on!" everyone turned their heads and looked at me weirdly. "Trust me" it seemed that that cheesy phrase made them do what I asked them to. "AARGHH!" that scream went through my spine. I turned around to see what was happening behind me, I saw Sam being pinned down by a Walker who was keen to eat his brains. I shot him off, but I didn't see the drones coming. A bullet scratched Cain in the leg and created a flesh wound. Sam hurried towards him and dragged him into the woods for some cover. Now it was just me, Madison, Atlas and Hugo. I could only hope Diaz had noticed it was us, we were in some deep trouble. "Brooke, wake up!" I instantly aimed at the Zombies that were closing in on my friends. Atlas was nowhere to be found so it was just us three left. "I'm out" Hugo grabbed my hand and squeezed it. Madison gave me her famous smirk and we grabbed our knives. "Zombie number 20... 24... Ohhh double kill!" We were all counting in the hope the flood of zombies would end. "SHIT" I was killing a fat ass zombie when I heard Hugo scream. "Why won't you die, I need to help my teammate, you nasty deceased piece of shit!" It just wouldn't die. Hugo had three zombies trying to bite him and his knife was two meters away from him, but I can't help him in any way because the walker in front of me was way too strong for me to hold him back with one arm. Madison was fighting her own battle with a sling and rocks. She was damaging the drones that were targeting us. It looked pretty scary, with the bullets flying around her. Suddenly there was this familiar gunshot sound. "They're helping us?!" I heard Hugo ask himself. He was free of the walkers and I was trying my best to kill the big ass zombie in front of me, but he was too tall and strong for me to stab his brain. I heard a shot and suddenly my face was covered in zombie. It smelled and felt disgusting, it sent shivers through my spine. "Those were the last ones. Peter, you're on lookout, Damian help Sam with the wounded boy. As for you Carl, just do something without fucking it up." I was so tired but when I heard that familiar voice of our squad leader I stood up and walked towards the big grumpy dude. Hugo did a bro hug and Madison and I hugged him shortly. "How? I mean, you're you, but how?" Diaz laughed "Breath Sam".
