Chapter 1
Fury POV
Hellicarrier, somewhere in the Atlantic Ocean
After New York, everyone had been on edge. Even now, 3 years later with no problems, no war and no aliens invading, they could not forget how defenceless they had felt. Nick Fury knew he could count on the Avengers to help him out but that still didn't shake the feeling away. The hopeless, helpless feeling. Since then every government in every country had upgraded their defences and weapons, not against each other but against anything and everything out there. They all knew our technology was nothing against them but us humans are stubborn. Once we have something we don't easily give it up.
Thor had informed Fury about Loki, how Odin had locked him away on Asgard and Thor had told him that Loki wasn't really at fault. That some man, or alien, named Thanos had forced him to do it. But everyone knew Thor was a bit too trusting and soft when it came to his stepbrother. What Fury really didn't believe was that Loki was sorry, everyone saw how much he enjoyed smashing up New York, but according to Thor he really was sorry. That didn't mean they had to believe him though.
Thor was now able to travel between earth and Asgard easily, which he did regularly, visiting his girlfriend Jane Foster who had helped Fury with research over the past few years. Banner had gained more control over the Hulk. Stark was still a stubborn child. Barton and Romanoff were still his best agents, and the Captain was still adjusting to the 70 years of technology but Fury had to admit he was doing pretty well since he could now use a cell phone and microwave which was really all you needed today.
Standing in the bridge of the Hellicarrier, Fury watched his agents working, their eyes flicking across computer screens searching for something new. Fury had recently made sure his agents were the best men and woman from every country in the world and Fury agreed that they were. Fury was never disappointed with anything his agents showed him, he never had to say anything twice and he knew they all worked their hardest. He couldn't ask for much more.
Even though he looked like a harsh man Fury was only scary when he needed to, this was usually when speaking to Stark, but he did care for his team of Avengers and he did care for his agents. But it always seemed as though he was the only one (out of government officials) that cared for the wellbeing of the world. Fury felt as though he was the only one really capable of looking after everyone.
Satisfied with the new reports in his hand, Fury turned to walk back to his living quarters but stopped.
*BEEP BEEP BEEP*
Fury turns slowly back to the screens to see Agent Hill marching towards him.
"Sir," Agent Hill questioned standing in front of her boss.
"Yes." Fury stated simply flicking pictures across the holographic screen.
Agent Hill looked pale and gulped. "We finished the tests you asked for, about the new energy we found."
Fury stiffened and looked at her as she continued.
"We still don't know what it is, but it is similar to the Tesseract and just like it, very powerful. We do not know what kind of object it is or who has it. This is the best we can do with out the real object." Agent Hill said as she passed him the folder. "Not even our best scientists can figure it out. But we do know it's in New York."
"Call them."

Avengers Tower, New York
Natasha POV
When Natasha got the call from Fury all the members of the team seemed to in all different places of the Avengers Tower and lucky her, she had to go get them all one by one. It always seemed that Fury called her. Not Clint. Not Bruce. Not even Tony or Steve. It was always Natasha who Fury called and asked to gather the others so Fury could give them another mission. She had told each to go to the lounge where Fury would wait for them.
"Nice of you to join us." Steve commented as Tony came in last and sat down.
"Pleasure." Tony stated un-amused.
Tony tapped a few buttons and Fury appeared on the screen in front of them. Natasha wasn't sure what this mission was, she didn't know if it would be dangerous or just a stupid errand that was a waste of her skills but what really unsettled her was that Fury had requested them all. Even Thor who was, luckily, on earth. She hadn't attempted a mission with the team in the 3 years they had been the Avengers. Natasha turned back to Fury in the screen in front of her. He looked tired and angry, even more than usual.
"Recently my agents have found a new source of energy similar to the Tesseract meaning just as powerful and maybe just as valuable and dangerous." Fury began, getting straight to the point. "So remember that others may know about it and might be after it as well. We do not know much about it other than its site. I want all of you to go and retrieve it and bring it to me. Get it any way you can. I will be there soon. Romanoff you can explain further." He nodded to her and was gone.
"Hello to you to Fury." Tony muttered receiving a few glares from Steve and Natasha. Natasha looked around to watch the expressions on her teammates faces change to a slight bit of worry and annoyance. She could see the men around her were repeating Fury's speech in their heads. Her jacket pocket vibrated loudly and Natasha pulled out her cell.
"So Fury wants us to capture and question anyone near the source of energy and detain anyone who possesses it." Natasha said reading the message on her phone.
"So that's all the information we get?" Clint asked a little annoyed.
"Yeah that's what he said when he gave me the place." Natasha said taking out the phone-like tracker from her back pocket.
"Where is it?" Steve asked standing up adjusting his leather jacket.
Natasha quickly checked the device in her hand. It showed her a large map of New York with one single red dot. Out of the corner of her eye she saw Steve slowly shaking his head as he watched her tap the screen.
"I don't understand technology." He mumbled.
Natasha frowned as she mumbled "The Four Seasons hotel?"
"The Four Seasons hotel?" Bruce repeated. "That's where the source of the new energy is?"
"Yep." Natasha said, not looking up from her device in her hand. "And it seems that our source is in the penthouse."
