Chapter 3
New York
Tony POV
"NO!" 5 different voices yelled. Tony quickly stands and jumps out the window after the girl who was free-falling to the concrete ground.
Why would she jump? He asked himself. The night air was cold and crisp and he was thankful of installing heaters into his suit. He saw the girl below him she was still holding that stick she had picked up before and was still holding her injured arm. As she plummeted down she slowly titled herself so she was going head first and even faster a laugh arising from her throat.
Did I just hear her laugh?
"80 feet sir." Jarvis said awaking Tony from his thoughts. They were both getting closer to the ground when suddenly the girl lurched up. She turns back with a smile that soon fades as she sees Tony righting himself to follow her direction. It surprised Tony that she hadn't noticed him before.
"Jarvis, we need this girl." He commands as he speeds after the small girl into the night-time city darting between the tall glowing buildings of New York City. She wasn't far ahead now but when he reached out to grab her. She curved suddenly out of his reach. She kept looking back to see Tony getting closer and closer with a look of determination.
"Please! Stop, no one is going to hurt you we just want to know about you!" Tony shouts causing the girl to turn so she is going backwards slightly slowing down. Tony slows right down but goes so he is hovering in front of her. Tony slides the metal visor up so the girl can see his face.
"I won't harm you. Fury just wants to know what, no who, you are. If we had known you were a person and not an object this would have been very different but still can you please come with me, please?" Tony pleaded. He wasn't lying but he hoped Fury didn't hurt this girl. She was still young and didn't need to brought into all the mess Fury seemed to always find. The girl seemed to consider his words.
"Please, I would like to know how you can do those awesome tricks with the ice. Plus what you did and said to Steve was hilarious, oh his face." Tony chuckled. The girl seemed to loosen up at this.
"At least someone has a sense of humour." She grinned hovering closer, even if only by an inch.
"Well, kid we are alone on that one. So we can both take that to our advantage." Tony said happy this girl seemed to relax a little. But she then frowned at his comment.
"Oh sorry. I'm still not going with you." She said all serious again she swung her glowing stick at Tony who had dodge the blast. This gave the girl enough time to quickly fly off again. Tony righted himself and flew after her, again, though she was slower than last time.
Maybe she's getting tired? He was right; he was close enough to hear her quick intake of breaths. He puts everything he has into the lurch forward to grab her. He clasped his metal hand around her ankle and stopped mid-air.
"Ugh" She grunted as Tony pulled her back into one metal arm while the other free hand pried free the stick. She squirmed to get out of Tony's hold but she was still just a kid.
"Hey! I don't want to go with you! This is kidnapping!" She shouted thrashing around. Together they flew back to her hotel room to the still stuck Captain and a pissed Fury. Tony sets her down and as soon as she is out of is hold she jumps for her stick, but Tony and his inner child holds it above his head as she reaches for it. She huffs in annoyance, sticking out her tongue, crossing her arms and glaring at Tony.
Fury looks at the girl once then glances at Thor who lifts her small body up by her hoodie. She is dangling in the air squirming around trying to break free. She looks even smaller now being held by the huge god. She then tries to escape by using her feet as leverage pushing against Thor's thick armour. She stops as she sees Fury grab the stick off Tony and pass it to one of his agents her eyes never once leaving the stick.
She started squirming again so hard that she finally wiggles out of Thor's tight grip and runs to grab her stick from one of the agents. Fury spins and before the girl can do anything he injects something into her neck. She yelps as she falls back on the ground. Scrambling to get up the girl seemed to losing consciousness. Tony glared at Fury.
So much for not harming her.
"See ya later I guess." She mumbles smirking. Tony could see she was fighting it and even though Tony had no idea what Fury had injected into her he knew it wouldn't kill her. If Fury wanted to ask her some questions he would get them. He wasn't going to kill his only lead.
She hasn't stopped smiling at all this whole time. It doesn't even go completely as the girl's eyes roll back and she slowly slumps down on the floor, her only movement a steady rise and fall of her chest. Fury looks at her once.
"Just bring her back to Base, we don't know what she is capable of." He orders and stalks out the room a trail of agents behind him. Thor again picks up the small girl bridal style and carefully makes sure he is not hurting her before walking out after Fury. Each of the Avengers walk out the room, following Fury like children.
