Chapter 13

New York, Avengers Tower

Steve POV

*THWACK*

9 weeks.

*THWACK*

There were signs of Kat. But we still couldn't find her.

*THWACK*

Fury had said that we were close to finding her.

*THWACK*

But I could tell he was no closer than before.

*CRACK*

The punching bag swung off the hinges and smacked down on the ground with a thump. Steve didn't bother to get a new one. He had been at this for 2 hours. He had broken 11 of the punching bags already and Natasha was getting annoyed with him. She had left 30 minutes ago? Steve didn't know.

When she moves that damn quietly, how could I tell?

She had only come down to tell him nothing had been found, then criticized Steve's way of punching, saying he should use more punches that start lower or something. When he broke his second one while talking to her she had scolded him like a child asking if he would go buy them and lug them all the way back to this training room in the Avengers Tower. Steve wasn't really listening anyway. After packing away the equipment Steve unwrapped his hands and went up to the main common room heading straight for the fridge.

"Hey Tony." Steve greeted him as he grabbed a cool bottle out the fridge, twisting the cap and downing the cold liquid. Tony was sitting at a bar stool, his eyes staring at his hands, lost in his own thoughts.

He seems to do that a lot lately.

Tony had told them about the scans he has done and had pointed out that finding Kat before Fury did was very important. He had said that we might have a better chance at talking to her than a horde of Shield agents pounding on her door, which was true. Loki was the only one who had argued with Tony, asking them why in the nine realms would she talk to them? It was a bit worrying that he had a point, after all these were the people who as she said 'kidnapped, drugged and shot' her but they had all agreed that they would at least try.

Everyone had helped in their own way, even Loki who had used his magic to search. Apparently Odin had 'loosened' Loki's bracelets meaning he could only use them for searching for her. As if that made Steve feel any safer around the man.

Steve didn't know what to think of Loki. He helped a lot with information about Kat but he wasn't very friendly. Steve had accepted the fact that Loki was punished for his actions and Thor said Loki was somewhat sorry. Steve was willing to put it, a bit, behind him, but Loki had no interest in talking to anyone other than Thor. The only time Steve had seen Loki act differently was when Kat was here.

Tony had found Kat 4 times Steve realized. Bali, Athens, D.C and Auckland, and each time the Avengers had raced there to find nothing. There were no connections between these places either. They had found the records of her past houses but they were dusty and empty.

Somehow, according to Tony and Bruce, Kat had managed to hide the energy that radiated off her in thick waves. The only way they had found her was of Tony's facial scan. He had hacked into every single camera in the world and had eventually found her.
