Chapter 5
"Wake up, Hic!"
Hiccup opened his eyes groggily to see Jack standing there with a huge smile on his face. "It's time to go! The days-a-wastin'!"
Hiccup groaned at Jack, but knew better than to argue with him. He stood up and arched his back. "What time is it?"
Jack shrugged. "I have no idea. It's about 8, I believe."
Hiccup sighed. "Well, let's go." He turned to Toothless, when he heard Jack say, "Wait."
Hiccup turned to get a fistful of snow in the face. He yelled, and quickly wiped it off. Jack, meanwhile, was laughing his head off.
"I can't believe that you fell for that!" He said between gasps.
Hiccup gave him a look that said, seriously? While Jack was still laughing, he grabbed a fistful of snow and pressed it into a ball. He then chucked it, and it hit Jack square in the face.
"Ooo, I know what you want." Jack said with a ridiculous smile on his face.
"If it's called, 'you on the ground with a face full of snow,' then yes." Hiccup said, tossing another snowball.
"Nope," Jack shook his head, popping the 'p'. "It's called, SNOWBALL FIGHT!"
He waved his staff, and snowballs magically appeared on the ground. Jack and Hiccup laughed and began to chuck snowballs at each other. At one point, Toothless lifted his head to see what all the commotion was about. When he found that neither of them were in danger, he lowered his head and began to snore once more.
After a while, both Jack and Hiccup grew tired of their snowball fight and just sat down, panting.
"How was that for a, 'you on the ground with a face full of snow?'" asked Jack.
"Eh," Hiccup huffed, shrugging. "You could've done better."
Jack smiled evilly. "Like this?" He asked, and then he shoved snow in Hiccup's face and caused him to fall backwards, lying on the ground. Jack began to laugh again, and Hiccup just wiped the snow away, sitting back up.
"Better," He said. "But this is what I meant."
The next thing that Jack knew, he was lying on the ground with a face full of snow. For a moment, he was silent, just listening to Hiccup's laughs, when he began to laugh too.
"Yea, that was pretty funny," He admitted. "Only that I totally beat you in that snowball fight."
"In your dreams, Frost."
"Party Pooper."
"Immature."
"Meaney."
"Snowflake."
"Dr-hey!"
Hiccup began to laugh again. Jack rolled his eyes. "Snowflake." He murmured. "Sound's like the nickname for a girl."
"That was the intention."
"Well, you should know that I'm-HEY!"
Hiccup laughed again.
"Don't make me freeze your toes off." Jack threatened, pointing his staff at Hiccup.
"Beard of Thor, I forgot you could do that."
Jack smirked. "That's right. And don't forget it, least I freeze only you pinky toe. And you'd be lucky if I did just that."
Hiccup's eyes got wide. "I'll make sure not to call you snowflake. Unless we're at a time when I can get away with it."
"There is no time that you'd be able to get away with it." Jack told him.
Hiccup looked at Jack, pondering for a moment on calling him Snowflake, but then thought better of it. Instead, he said, "Are we going to Scotland or not?"
"Of course we are," Jack said. "And if my calculations are correct, we should make it there by nightfall."
"Great. Well, let's get going then."
Hiccup saddled up Toothless, and in about 3 minutes they were up and flying. They decided not to race this time, but instead talk.
"So, who is she living with now?" Hiccup asked.
"The royal family."
"So, she's a princess?"
"She should be," Jack answered, shrugging. "I honestly don't know. But I hope that she will be easy to find. Actually, she should be able to stick out, like a piece of corn in the middle of a bowl of peas."
"Why?"
"She has hair that is about 70 feet long."
"70 feet long?!" Hiccup exclaimed.
Jack shrugged again. "I don't know how long. It could be longer."
"Longer than 70 feet?!"
"Hey! I don't know, okay?"
"Right, right. So what are you going to do when you see her?"
Jack shrugged again. "Tell her that I couldn't find her mother, apologize for not coming to visit her in 10 years, and hope that she forgives me."
Hiccup rolled his eyes. "Depending on who she is, that plan should work just fine!" he said sarcastically.
They flew on throughout the day, and eventually night came. About 2 hours after the sun had set, Jack yelled in triumph.
"We're in Scotland!" He yelled.
"We just made it to Scotland?" Hiccup asked.
"No. But I just realized it now."
Hiccup rolled his eyes. "Great. My guide has no sense of direction."
"Excuse me?"
"Nothing!" Hiccup said quickly.
"Right, nothing." Jack repeated, when he really heard everything that Hiccup said.
They flew on for about another 20 minutes, when suddenly Toothless perked up. His ears flattened against his head, and his eyes turned to slits. He made a sharp turn and began to fly towards the ground.
"Woah!" Hiccup yelled. "Toothless, what is it?"
Toothless didn't answer. He just kept flying on, keeping low to the ground, until he finally stopped and landed. His head jerked from side to side, as if he was nervous. Jack landed next to them.
"What?" He asked.
"I have no idea." Hiccup answered. Toothless' head kept on looking around, and after a moment of silence, a sobbing noise was heard.
"What is it?" Hiccup asked.
"I don't know," Jack said. "But it sounds as if it's someone crying. And that someone sounds like a girl."
