Chapter 3

"Punzie!"

Rapunzel looked up from her painting. It was Merida calling her, probably looking for a place to hide from their mother. Elinor wanted to make Merida a proper princess, but she didn't need to really worry about Rapunzel. Rapunzel couldn't really wield a weapon. Merida was more of the fighter.

Sure enough, Merida busted through Rapunzel's room door, gasping and clutching her bow. "Hide me!" she gasped. Rapunzel smiled and pointed to her closet. Merida slammed the door and ran to Rapunzel's closet. Once she was inside, Rapunzel turned back to the painting that she was drawing, and just a moment later, her stepmother walked through the door.

"Rapunzel, you haven't seen Merida, have you?" Elinor asked.

Rapunzel shook her head.

"She must have gone through another door. Never mind, dear, I'm sorry for disturbing you. What are you painting?"

"Um, nothing." Rapunzel said, which wasn't entirely true. What she was drawing was herself with Jack, the first day that she had met him. She missed him; he hadn't come back to see her, and had brought no news about her mother. She wished that she could see him again, at least just once more.

"Well, if you see Merida, could you please just let me know?" Elinor asked.

"Of course."

Elinor left, and once she couldn't hear her anymore, Merida emerged from the closet. "Thanks." she sighed in relief.

"No problem," Rapunzel said, looking up from her painting. "That's what sisters do, you know. They look out for eachother. What amount of trouble did you get in this time?"

"None. I didn't show up for something mum wanted to talk about, and she was searching for me."

"Wow. That's pretty dangerous."

"I know. So, what are you drawing?"

Rapunzel looked back at her drawing. "Me. And Jack."

Merida rolled her eyes. "It's been nearly 10 years, Punzie."

"I know, but....I really believe that he's still searching."

"10 years. I don't think so."

"I can believe."

Merida sighed. "Oh, come on."

Rapunzel rolled her eyes. Just then, Elinor came in. "There you are, Merida!" She exclaimed.

Merida groaned. Rapunzel tried her best to hide a snigger. "Come along, Merida. And I think it's best that you come too, Rapunzel."

Rapunzel stood and followed Merida and Elinor to her study. Once inside, Elinor closed and locked the door. "We don't want those little troublemakers bursting in on us," she muttered, referring to the triplets as she walked away and over to her desk. "Now, Merida, Rapunzel," she said, no longer whispering and talking very seriously. "The suitors have responded."

Merida and Rapunzel exchanged glances. "Excuse me?" Rapunzel asked.

"The suitors. Surely you both know that the firstborns from each of the other kingdoms are coming to fight for your hands!"

"Uh, no," Merida said. "It must have slipped your mind at some point."

"Oh, well, now you know. The 2 that have the highest scores will each win your hand. Merida, since you are older, you will get the one with the highest score, and Rapunzel will get the one with the second highest score."

"MUM!" Merida yelled. "I won't marry someone who has a highest score! If I'm ever to marry I want it to be someone who I know!"

"Uh, sorry, Mum, but I'm going to have to agree with Merida on this one." Rapunzel said. "I don't want to marry someone with a score, but someone who I know and love."
