Chapter 4

"I am sooo, leaving!"

Hiccup swiped his hand across his chest as he said this. A large basket was over his shoulder, filled with water and food that was for his dragon, Toothless, and himself as well. Toothless was a sleek black Night Fury, the supposed offspring of lightning and death itself. The book of dragons couldn't have been anymore wrong: Toothless was a protective and loving creature, fit with the gorgeous teal puppy dog eyes and dorky smile. His dragon looked up at Hiccup as he said this, as did Jack Frost. They exchanged looks with each other, before looking back at Hiccup.

"Yep, we're leaving." Hiccup continued. "Let's pack up. We're taking a little vacation. Forever."

"What do you mean, Hic?" Jack asked.

"I can't kill dragons, Jack. They're going to try and make me do it. A competition." Hiccup told him. "I won't do it. And anyways, if they find Toothless, they'll kill him."

Jack sighed. "They won't find him, Hic."

"It doesn't matter. I don't want to kill a dragon, and I couldn't if my life depended on it. I'm a mistake, remember?"

"Hey, don't beat yourself up about it. It'll be alright. Just let me go and check one last time, alright?"

"Alright."

Jack smiled. "Thanks, Hic." He then flew up and went off to the village of Berk.

Hiccup turned to Toothless, who groaned at him. "What?" Hiccup asked.

After a few moments, Jack returned. He touched the ground and walked over to Hiccup with a sad look on his face. He shook his head before Hiccup could ask. Hiccup nodded back at him while he finished strapping on Toothless's saddle.

"You never told me why you're searching for that woman." Hiccup stated. "Do you know her?"

"No," Jack said. "I've never met her. I've been searching for nearly 10 years, but I haven't had any luck."

"Then why are you looking for her?" Hiccup asked.

"It's for a friend," Jack said, looking away.

Hiccup smirked. "Is it a girl?"

Jack snorted. "Wh-what? No."

Hiccup smirked again. "It's a girl. 'Cause when a guy does one stupid thing once, well, it's because he's a guy. But when he does the same stupid thing for 10 years, it's usually because of some...girl."

Jack frowned. "Where did you hear that?"

Hiccup shrugged. "My dad said it when he caught me doing stuff for Astrid. Polishing her axe all the time."

Jack rolled his eyes, before looking up and at the setting sun. "I want to see her again. I promised her that I'd visit, but I haven't."

Hiccup yelled in triumph. "Aha! I knew it was a girl!"

"Yea, she's not just a girl," Jack said. "She's my friend. And I had promised her that I would look for her mother. I had kept that one, but I haven't kept the other promise."

"And what was that one?" Hiccup asked.

Jack turned and looked at Hiccup. "That I would stay with her until her mother returned."

Hiccup made his eyes wide and nodded his head. "Wow, man. Going around and breaking promises are we?"

Jack glared. "I'm about to make it whole again. When we leave, the first place that we're headed to is Scotland. That's where she is now. Or, at least I think that's where she is."

Hiccup shrugged. "Alright then. Scotland it is." He mounted Toothless and clicked the tail-wing open. "Ready to go, Bud?" He asked. Toothless snorted, and Hiccup took that for an, I've been waiting for you to ask me that but you haven't! Can we go now?

Toothless crouched before leaping into the air, flapping his wings to gain altitude. Jack followed, his arms and staff beside him as he flew alongside both Hiccup and Toothless. Toothless snorted, and Jack understood that as, Let's race. OnyourmarkgetsetGO!

Toothless began to flap faster, and Jack followed. Hiccup found out in about 3 seconds that they were having a race, and began to aid Toothless in the flight. All three of them laughed as they flew(well, Toothless did a more of a gurgling noise), and then began to do tricks.

Eventually, they grew tired(even Jack), and they decided to land for the rest of that night. As soon as they landed, Toothless crashed. From where he laid, he blew a fire on to 3 branches that were lying in front of him. Hiccup quickly put stones around them to control the fire. Once that was finished, both him and Jack sat down.

"So," Hiccup said after a while of silence. "What's her name?"

"Who's?" Jack asked, his face scrunching up in confusion.

"The girl's."

"Oh," Jack said. "Um, I don't want to talk about it."

"I see," Hiccup nodded. "How'd you guys meet?"

"Uh," Jack scratched the back of his head nervously. "I met her in a tower."

"A tower?"

"Uh, yea," Jack continued, still scratching the back of his head. "I guess that her mother hid her there. I don't know why, but when I got there, her mother was missing. I stayed with her for 4 days in that tower, but she didn't return. So I took her to Scotland and away to a new family."

"So, you were searching for her mother?"

"Yes."

Hiccup nodded. "What's the girl's name?" He tried again.

Jack hesitated for a moment, before replying, "Rapunzel."

"Rapunzel?" Hiccup asked. "That's a mouthful. And isn't that a type of lettuce?"

Jack rolled his eyes. "Yea, I know it's a mouthful. I always called her Punzie, unless I was talking to her seriously."

"Punzie, huh?" Hiccup smirked.

Jack frowned. "She was 6."

"Oh," Hiccup said, now looking at Jack with a look of surprise. Jack was silent for a moment, before getting his eyes wide.

"I'm not a petifile!" He screamed.

Hiccup laughed. "I know. I was only teasing."

Jack sighed in relief. "Good. For a second, there, I thought that you were serious."

Hiccup rolled his eyes. "I wouldn't do that to you, no matter what."

"Good," Jack repeated. "Because if you do, I'd have to freeze your feet."

Hiccup's eyes got wide. "In that case, I'd better watch what I say to you from now on."

Jack nodded. "Yes, you should. Now go to sleep. I'll keep watch."

Hiccup nodded and laid down next to Toothless. Jack looked at him for a moment, before turning away and looking up at the moon. He smiled to it. "Thanks." He murmured.
