Chapter 11

Jack flew back to Corona, looking for Merida and Hiccup. It didn't take him long to find them outside a weapons store, Merida with a new bow on her back. She smiled when Jack came near, but then frowned when she saw that Rapunzel wasn't with him. The went out of Corona and to Toothless and Angus.

"Where's Rapunzel?" She asked.

"You won't believe what I'm going to tell you." Jack said.

"I never do," Hiccup joked. "Actually, it depends on what you say. What is it?"

"After we saw the lights-"

"You two kissed!" Merida cheered with a smile.

"Yeah-wait, what? No!" Jack argued, blushing. "How would that explain why she isn't with me?"

Merida shrugged. "I don't know. Anyways, what were you saying?"

"Uh..." Jack hesitated, knowing that Merida was teasing him. "We saw the lights, and then I saw this green light at the end of the shore. We went over to it, and guess what?"

"That's when you two kissed." Hiccup said, nodding and smirking at the same time.

"NO!" Jack yelled, making Merida and Hiccup laughed. Jack rolled his eyes. "We got there, and there's this woman. She calls to Rapunzel, and what do you know? It's her mother!"

"WHAT?!" Hiccup and Merida exclaimed.

"I know!" Jack said, smiling. Then that smile faded. "But then they had to leave. Something about witches chasing them."

"And you two didn't even kiss?" Merida asked.

"For the love of-no! We didn't kiss!" Jack exclaimed, throwing his hands in the air, making Merida and Hiccup laugh. Then, they both went quiet.

"So, Rapunzel is gone?" Merida asked.

"For now," Jack said. "I don't know, honestly." Then he smiled. "But I'm sure that we'll see her again. Rapunzel isn't one to break her promises."

Merida chuckled. "No she doesn't. Yeah, we'll see her again."

They were silent for a moment, before Merida sighed. "I guess that the adventure is over?"

"The adventure never ends!" Jack said. Then he sighed. "Maybe this one is."

"We all should probably get back home," Merida said. "My mum will be worried. And they should probably know that Rapunzel is back with her mum."

Hiccup nodded. "I should get back too. People will be wondering where I am."

Jack pouted and looked down. Already it was ending? He gave a little huff. "I guess."

Hiccup smiled and shook hands with Merida. "So, see you around?"

"Yeah," Merida agreed, smiling. "Perhaps mum will forgive me. I'm sure that we will see each other again."

Jack smiled evilly. "Hehe. You guys like each other."

They both blushed. "No!"

Jack laughed. "I get some payback, right?"

They rolled their eyes, and then Merida and Hiccup took turns shaking hands with Jack. "See you 'round, Jack." Hiccup said.

"If you see my sister, tell me alright?" Merida said.

"Yep." Jack smiled. Merida turned and mounted Angus, sending the boys one last goodbye before nicking the reigns. Angus then rode off.

Hiccup sighed and mounted Toothless. "You going to come?" He asked Jack.

"No," Jack said. "I think that I'll stay at Corona for a while."

Hiccup nodded. "See you around."

"Be careful. I sensed Pitch last night. He might be out there."

"I will." Hiccup nodded, and then Toothless jumped into the air, flying away. Jack watched with a heavy heart, before he remembered someone. Someone that he should talk to.

He turned around and flew off back into Corona.

Pitch watched Jack fly off back into Corona. So far, things were going as planned. Gothel had the girl, and once Jack was eliminated victory was his. He smiled. It was almost time.

Turning around, he called Gothel. Her face came up in the black sand orb that he now had. "What is it, Pitch?" She asked. Her face was now the way that it was before, and Pitch assumed that Rapunzel had used her magic on Gothel to make her young again.

He smiled. "Things are going according to plan?" He asked.

Gothel nodded. "Two days?" She asked.

"Perfect timing. I'll make sure that old Rider will know and alert Frost."

"Very well. Now don't bother me again, alright?"

Pitch didn't answer, but only stopped the connection. He smiled again. It was almost time.

Two days later, Jack was walking back through the forest.

He decided that he was going to return to the tower one last time before going out to see Hiccup and Merida, and hopefully Rapunzel. He frosted the grass when he walked on it. It was May, but he couldn't help it. He closed his eyes as he walked, happy for the silence.

Then there was a sound.

Opening his eyes, Jack looked around. He thought that distantly he heard his name being called, but because he didn't hear it again he ignored it. Turning around, Jack began to walk again.

Then he heard it again.

Raising his staff, Jack looked around. The noise came again, sounding closer. It sounded like someone was trampling through the forest. He heard it coming from his right, and launched towards the noise. Jack came in contact with someone and held them down, pointing his staff at their neck. But before he could truly see who it was, they pushed upward and turned the tables, pinning Jack to the ground instead.

Jack looked for his staff and reached for it, but it was out of his reach. He knew that he could use his magic without his staff for a limited time, but before he just blindly attacked the person who held him down spoke. "Hey! You wouldn't harm a friend, would you?"

Jack looked up to see their face. "E-Eugene?" He asked.

Eugene smiled. "I finally found you."

"You're the one that I heard?" Jack asked.

"Yeah," Eugene confirmed, getting off. Then his face turned serious. "I was looking for you. Something bad is happening. Something very bad."

"What?" Jack asked, sitting up.

"I saw something. It was a dark black cloud chasing a cart. I heard laughter too."

"Eugene, cut to the chase and tell me what's going on!" Jack argued.

"I-it's Rapunzel," Eugene said. "She's it trouble!"
