Chapter 12
"Wh-what do you mean, Rapunzel's in trouble?" Jack asked.
Eugene looked down. "I saw the carriage that her and her mother were taking. There was this huge dark black cloud following them."
Jack's eyes got wide. "Pitch." He growled.
Eugene looked up at him. "Pitch Black?"
"Only person that I can think of." Then Jack gasped. "He told me Rapunzel isn't who she seems to be! He may want her!"
"But since when can Pitch Black use so much of his power to create a giant black cloud?" Eugene asked.
"Don't know," Jack said, frowning. "As far as I know, he can't create visible nightmares, or giant black clouds."
"Then maybe it isn't him?" Eugene asked. "Can anyone else make such things?"
"There is the guardian of night," Jack said. "Her name is Nyx. But she is never interested in humans, or what other guardians are doing. She just brings night when the time comes. It has to be Pitch."
"He must have a new power, then." Eugene said.
"Yeah," Jack stood up, grabbing his staff. "That's what I'm worried about." Not wasting a moment, Jack jumped and called the wind, flying off to try and find Rapunzel. It didn't take a very long time for him to find the dark black cloud. Flashes of lights came from inside the the cloud, making it seem like a thunderstorm.
Jack flew fast. Don't worry, Rapunzel, He thought. I'm on my way.

Merida rode through the forest, on her way back home. Almost two days had passed since she had left Cornova, and she was almost home. She smiled, taking in the fresh air. She knew that as soon as she returned home, the freedom she had would be gone.
She was not far from home, still trampling through the forest, when a black shadow went over her and a gust of wind blew into her back. She slowed Angus to a stop just as Toothless and Hiccup landed in front of her.
"What are you doing here?" Merida asked, raising an eyebrow and smiling.
"Well..." Hiccup had practiced what he was going to say, but he couldn't get the words out. "Uh, well...Merida, you know that we probably won't ever see each other again after this..."
"Yeah, I know," Merida sighed. "Mum won't let me leave the castle without a guard or anyone anymore, let alone let me go to Berk to see you."
"Well, Berk is also an island."
"Oh." Merida sighed again.
"And I couldn't let you go without going for a flight."
"Going for a flight?" Merida asked.
Hiccup nodded. "You've never flown, have you?"
"Uh, let me think on that one..." Merida looked as though she was thinking hard. "Of course I've never flown, what did you think?"
"Uh...Never mind. But I wanted to take you on a flight, before we go our separate ways for good."
Merida got off of Angus' back. It was really kind of Hiccup to offer to take her on a flight, but she was nervous, though she would never admit it. What would flying be like? Scary? Fun?
Well, there was only one way to find out.
Merida nodded. "Alright. I'll go on a flight." She turned to Angus. "You know the way home." Angus nickered before running off, heading back home. Merida turned and began to walk to Hiccup.
