Chapter 1
It was a cool clear night when it started.
For one, it was cool because Jack Frost had just paid a visit to the kingdom of Cornoa. It was a little early, just in the middle of October, but Jack had decided that this kingdom hadn't seen enough of the snow.
He was just sending the last cold wind in for the night, sending it breezing out across the streets, when it hit a woman in a black cloak. She gasped and dropped the basket she had been holding. She quickly put the flowers back inside the basket, straightened up, and looked up at Jack with a frown on her face.
"Frost!" Jack heard her yell, and he let out a laugh. He'd seen this woman before, and she could, surprisingly, see him. Jack knew who this woman was: her name was Gothel. He enjoyed playing pranks on her.
"Your fault!" He shouted back. "You were in the winds way! The wind would never try and hurt you on purpose!" Jack smiled, crossing his fingers behind his back.
Gothel rolled her eyes and continued down towards the kingdom gates. Jack swooped down and started to walk alongside her, his staff over his shoulder.
"Why don't you head in at the normal time that everyone else does? Why do you come to the kingdom once a week? Why don't you like winter? Where do you live?" He asked her in one breath.
"Aarug!" Gothel groaned. "I've told you before, Jack, I don't have to answer those questions if I don't want to. I'm much older than you."
I doubt that, Jack thought, but instead he said, "Can I see where you live?"
Gothel stopped suddenly. "Why?"
Jack shrugged. "I don't know. I'm curious. You come here once a week and you're always so mysterious."
"Sorry, Jack, but no. I can't risk-" Gothel stopped, then started walking again.
"Risk what?" Jack asked.
"Nothing," Gothel answered and kept walking.
"Come on, you can trust me! I've got no one to tell!"
Gothel continued as if she couldn't hear him.
"You can still hear me! Right? Gothel, answer if you can hear me! Please!" Jack yelled to her back franticly. But Gothel continued as if she couldn't hear him (which, she could).
"GOTHEL!!" Jack screamed, but Gothel entered the forest without so much as a sideways glance.

A tear slid down Jack's cheek. Gothel was the only person who could see him, and, even though she wasn't really the most fun person in the world, she could still see him. If he had to go back to no one seeing him again-no, he didn't want to think it.
Jack wiped the tear away, then called the wind to take him somewhere else. He was suddenly tired of Cornoa, and decided to move on.
Perhaps there are people somewhere else that can see me, Jack thought. I just have to find them.

Jack entered the forest, sending some snow across the trees and the ground. Eventually, he touched the ground and began walking, freezing the last bit of plants that still clung to the ground. Another tear slid down his cheek, but he ignored it. There was someone else out there that could see him-he was sure of it.
Jack looked up at the moon. "Can you please tell me if there is anyone else? I need to know."
The moon just sat there, in the sky, not answering. Jack looked back, angered. It was one thing for Gothel to ignore him, but the moon doing it was just plain mean (the moon had spoken to him before, on the first day that Jack remembered).
