Chapter 13

Hiccup and Merida sped towards the cloud.

Something just felt off with the way it moved and just everything about it. Once close enough, they plunged inside, to see nothing but black sand everywhere. Suddenly, the sand parted and opened up a little bit to reveal Pitch Black.

"Hello, Hiccup Horrendous Haddock the Third, and Merida Dunbroch." He greeted.

Hiccup and Merida both glared.

"Why, aren't you two such a lively bunch," Pitch said, sarcastically. "Have you come to see the show too?"

"Just what kind of a show are we talking about here?" Merida asked.

"Witnessing your dear friend Jack being killed," Pitch smiled. "Well, not literally, but mentally. Dear Rapunzel has just given up on him and stopped believing in him. And soon, you two will too."

"Rapunzel would never give up and stop believing like that!" Merida shouted.

"And neither will we!" Hiccup agreed.

"I'm afraid that you will have no choice," Pitch said. "You guys just need a little motivation like Rapunzel."

Angry now, Hiccup clicked Toothless's tail wing and they sped towards Pitch. But this is what Pitch had wanted, and once they were close enough, he created a sand portal that they went through and disappeared.

"Sweet nightmares." He smirked evilly, turning back and going down to retrieve the now-unconscious Jack Frost.

Hiccup and Merida came out of the portal and into the sky again. They didn't remember anything about Jack. They believed that they had met by chance with Rapunzel and had found her mother, who was, by now, far away. They were just getting in one last flight with each other before going their separate ways for good.

Which was technically true.

Suddenly, Hiccup stopped Toothless, having him hover in the air. He brought his hand up to his head, all of a sudden feeling woozy. "Merida, do you feel that?" he asked.

"Y-yeah," She answered. "If it's a pounding in the head. I feel like I've forgotten something."

"Me too," Hiccup said. "Well, I guess that it wasn't that important."

"I guess not."

Hiccup guided Toothless down and into a clearing, where they both got off Toothless. "How'd you like it?" Hiccup asked.

Merida smiled. "It was great! Thanks for taking me on a flight, Hiccup."

"You're welcome."

"Why'd you do it?"

Hiccup's eyes seemed to get a little wider, and he looked away. "Um...well..."

Merida waited patiently. She had an idea why, but didn't know if it was true. "Do you like me?" She asked after a minute.

"Well, yeah, as a friend..."

"No, I mean more."

Hiccup hesitated. Whenever he saw Merida, his heart seemed to jump a tiny bit. It was as though Merida was Astrid, but he felt like he liked Merida much stronger than Astrid. "Yeah, a little bit."

Merida smiled. "I like you too. Though, don't tell my Mum, 'cause the next thing you know, she'll be trying to get a wedding going."

Hiccup laughed. "Don't worry. I won't."
