Chapter 6

Merida watched from her throne next to Rapunzel as the 3 firstborns of the 3 kingdoms shot their arrows. They were all pitiful, but if done correctly, Merida should be able to get both her and Rapunzel out of marriage.

She didn't tell Rapunzel, but what she planned to do was shot arrows for her own hand. She would be able to easily outrank all of the others, and hopefully be able to get both her and Rapunzel out of the mess that they were in.

When the last firstborn shot his arrow, Merida sneaked away. She hastily put on her cloak and walked out into the crowd. After a moment, when all was silent, she removed the cloak to reveal herself. She turned and looked at everyone.

"I am Merida!" she yelled out so that everyone could hear her. "I'm the firstborn of Elinor and Fergus DunBroch, King and Queen! And I'll be shooting for my own hand!"

Everyone gasped as Merida took out an arrow and lined it up with the bow. She attempted to pull back, but the tight dress got in her way. Merida tugged, trying to pull her arm back, but nothing made it budge.

"Aug!" She yelled in frustration. "Curse this dress!" Merida made one last pull, and ripped the dress so that she was able to pull back the arrow. Without so much as a glance to line it up, Merida shot and the arrow went instantly into the bullseye. She walked down to the 2nd target and shot that one too.

As Merida went to the 3rd target, Merida could hear her mother storming after her. She could hear her calling her name, commanding her to stop, but Merida didn't. She was on a roll now.

"Merida! Don't you dare let loose another arrow!" She heard her mother say. However, despite her mother's protests, Merida pulled back on the bow and let the arrow loose, slicing the arrow already in the bullseye clean in two.

Merida breathed a sigh of relief, and then turned to face her mother's wrath.

"I don't believe you!"

"Mum, I did it for a reason-"

"How could you just embarrass those poor boys?"

"They're idiots-"

"Merida!"

"Mum, I'm telling the truth! I did it because you wouldn't listen to me or Punzie. And just so you know, it's not her fault. I didn't tell her that I was going to do this. I'm looking after her. We're not ready to get married, Mum!"

Elinor glared at Merida. "You have brought shame onto us. Merida, you should be ashamed of yourself!"

"I'm not!" Merida yelled back. "I'm not sorry for what I did!"

"Merida, if you would just put away this nonsense-"

"NO!" Merida screamed. "I won't marry! I won't! And there is NOTHING. IN. THIS. WORLD. THAT. CAN. MAKE. ME. CHANGE. MY. MIND!" Merida yelled, slicing her sword against her bedpost.

"MERIDA DUNBROCH!" Elinor screamed. "Do not use that tone with me, young lady! You are the princess, and by being princess that means making sacrifices!"

"NEVER!" Merida screamed. "I will NEVER marry any of those-those-those idiots! If you want me to get married, Mum, it will be when I fall in love! Not for a score!"

Elinor glared at Merida, and then after a moment grabbed her bow. "Merida, you have brought shame upon our family, and for that, you will pay!" And with that, she threw Merida's bow into the fire.

"MUM!" Merida screamed. She stared in shock for a moment, before screaming, "HOW COULD YOU?!" and running out the door.
