The Potter family arrived at King's Cross Station with 10 minutes until the train left. They sprinted through the station together. Harry and Ginny were running in front, hand in hand, silently praying that they would make it in time. They ran through the barrier between Platforms 9 and 10 and came to a halt, panting, on Platform 9 3/4.
"Told you we'd make it, Gin!" Harry said as though they had been on time.
Ginny glared at him and he turned away from her.
"Hey, Rose," Albus said as his cousin approached, her parents and little brother trailing behind her.
"Hey, Al," Rose replied, "Are you ready for first year?"
"I'm actually kind of nervous," he said.
Rose nodded understandingly.
"James keeps telling me that I'll be in Slytherin," Albus said nervously.
"If you just let the Sorting Hat know you want to be a Gryffindor, I'm sure it'll help you out. It did for your dad, you know," Rose said consolingly.
Albus nodded.
Rose and Albus would both be in first year, meanwhile, James would be in third year. Lily and Hugo were both two years younger than Rose and Albus, so they wouldn't start Hogwarts for another two years.
Lily walked over to Hugo and started to talk animatedly. James climbed aboard the train where his cousin, Fred Weasley II, was waiting for him. Teddy Lupin had escaped his godfather to find his girlfriend, Victoire Weasley.
The train blew out a puff of steam and sounded it's horn. The Potter and Weasley kids were shoved onto the train by their parents. They boarded the train and found compartments together. Rose and Albus sat in one compartment together. They sat down just as the train began to move.
"I can't wait for Hogwarts, Al!" Rose squealed.
"Same here, Rosie," Albus replied.
They sat in silence for a while. All of a sudden, their compartment door slid open and they both looked up. A small boy with slicked-back, bleach-blonde hair stood in the doorway. He was alone and his trunk was sitting behind him.
"Do you need something?" Rose asked him politely.
"I was wondering if I could sit with you two. All the other compartments are full," the boy said.
Rose looked at Albus. He nodded.
"Sure! Have a seat," Albus said.
"Thanks! My name is Scorpius, by the way. Scorpius Malfoy," the boy proclaimed.
Rose's eyes widened.
"A Malfoy?" Rose whispered.
Scorpius cocked his head.
"Yes. What's your name?" Scorpius asked.
"Rose. Rose Weasley," she replied.
"A Weasley?" Malfoy whispered.
Rose nodded, his disbelief equally matching hers.
"And what's your name?" Scorpius asked Albus.
"Albus Potter," Albus replied.
Scorpius's jaw dropped.
"A Potter!" Scorpius whisper-shouted.
Albus nodded.
"I can't believe I'm sitting with the kids of my dad's worst enemies!" Scorpius said.
"Maybe if you got to know us better, you would have different feelings towards us," Rose said confidently.
Scorpius thought on it for a moment.
"Yeah, alright. Let's start over. I'm Scorpius Malfoy. Want to be friends?" Scorpius said, smiling.
"Yes," Albus replied immediately.
"Let's see how it goes between you and my cousin before I give you a definite answer," Rose said, holding up her hands as Scorpius looked at her expectantly.
Scorpius scowled, but agreed nonetheless.
