Unexpected

9. The Examination

After breakfast, Rose, Albus, Lily, Scorpius, and James went to the Room of Requirement to start the 'Malfoy Examination', as Lily called it. They wished for a room in which to take a test. When they went inside, there was a table, a chair, paper, pencils, and a trash can. Scorpius sat down in the chair and they wished for more chairs for everyone else to sit in. Lily agreed to let Rose sit beside Scorpius during his examination. They held hands under the table.
"Question one," Lily said.
Scorpius squeezed Rose's hand. She squeezed back.
"If you could choose to save yourself or Rose first, which would you choose to do?" James asked.
"I would save Rose first," Scorpius replied.
Rose could tell he was being truthful because he was speaking in his soft, comforting voice like he always does when he tells the truth.
Lily wrote his response down on a piece of paper.
"Question two," James said.
"You have two parties to attend. One is for your best friend and one is for your girlfriend. Which do you attend?" Lily asks.
"I would go to both. I would stay at one for a while then go to other," Scorpius said, again truthful.
Lily wrote down his response again.

They asked a few more questions before dismissing Scorpius. They told him that tomorrow was the first task. There would be a total of three tasks to complete before the scores would be given out. The idea of getting scores freaked Scorpius out. He tried not to think about it as he walked out of the Room of Requirement. He didn't know what to do. He finally decided to go talk to his best friend, Aiden. He went out to the Great Lake which was Aiden's favorite place. Aiden was there, sitting near the edge with his head on his knees.
"Hey," Scorpius said when he approached him.
"Hi," Aiden replied.
They sat in silence for a while.
"Where have you been lately? I've been trying to find you and every time you're nowhere to be seen!" Aiden said suddenly.
"Don't tell anyone, but I have a girlfriend," Scorpius admitted.
Aiden grinned deviously and nudged Scorpius.
"Shut up," Scorpius said, color flushing his face.
"Scor's in love! Scor's in love!" Aiden wailed.
Scorpius slapped a hand over Aiden's mouth to muffle his voice.
"Aiden Joseph Flint!" Scorpius exclaimed.
"Scorpius Hyperion Malfoy!" Aiden challenged.
Scorpius glared at him. Aiden glared back.
Just then, a hand covered Scorpius's eyes.
"Guess who?" a voice said.
Scorpius could guess easily. The hand smelled of roses. It was obviously Rose.
"Hey Rose," Scorpius said.
The hand fell away and Scorpius leaned his head back against her legs. She smiled down at him.
"Wait, how are you here?" Scorpius asked.
"Lily is with her boyfriend, Chase Longbottom, Albus is hanging out with his friends in the Room of Requirement, and James is doing detention with McGonagall. Stupid of them to do things on the same day like that and leave me unattended," Rose said.
Scorpius laughed.
"Well, I'm glad," Scorpius replied.
Rose sat down beside Scorpius and placed her head on his shoulder. He set his head on hers and took her hand in his.
"Wait, did you tell him-" Rose started to say.
"Yes, I told Aiden. He's only one person Rose. It's okay, I trust him," Scorpius assured Rose.
"Okay. As long as he tells no one!" Rose said sternly, waggling a finger at Aiden.
Aiden held his hands up in surrender.
"I won't tell!" Aiden turned to Scorpius, "Fiesty one, isn't she?"
Rose rolled her eyes and leaned back on Scorpius.
"I'm glad no one else is out on the grounds right now," Rose said.
Scorpius nodded.
"I'm just going to-uh-go then," Aiden said awkwardly, leaving Rose and Scorpius alone.
"You did good today," Rose complimented.
"Thanks. I was super nervous, but since you were there, it wasn't so bad," Scorpius said with a smile.
Rose grinned as her cheeks flushed red.
"Sweet of you," Rose said with a giggle.
Scorpius smiled and kissed Rose's forehead.
"Why so basic?" Rose asked.
She smiled and kissed Scorpius's lips lightly. She released him and looked into his gray eyes. He had his father's eyes. Scorpius stared back into Rose's blue eyes. She had her father's eyes too.
"I love you Rose," Scorpius said.
"Yeah, yeah," Rose said, waving a hand to dismiss his comment.
Scorpius made a face of mock surprise. Rose laughed.
"I love you too and all that mushy love stuff," Rose said.
"That's my Rosie," Scorpius remarked.
Rose smiled and put her head back on his shoulder. She hoped all this nonsense would be over soon so she wouldn't have to be so secretive.

This chapter wasn't so long but I was running out of ideas after the examination so...
