The next day, Rose woke up and just lay there, staring up at the ceiling.
Today's the first Hogsmeade trip. Rose thought to herself. Just thinking about that made her smile. She loved Hogsmeade.
Just then, a loud bang on the door brought Rose out of her thoughts.
"Open the door!" a voice said from the other side of Rose's bedroom door.
Rose recognized the voice immediately and went to open the door. Albus stood there, a crazy grin on his face.
"First Hogsmeade trip of the year, Rose! Are you excited?" Albus asked excitedly.
"What kind of question is that? Of course I'm excited!" Rose shouted.
Albus laughed.
"I've got to go get ready. Scorpius'll be wondering where I've got to," Albus said.
"Alright. Meet me by the fire in 15 minutes!" Rose called after her cousin.
Rose backed into her room and flopped down on the bed. She couldn't wait for the Hogsmeade trip.
She got up and went to her closet to find something to wear. Since they were going into Hogsmeade, they were allowed to wear their own clothes instead of their school robes.
Rose selected a pale pink shirt with a lace back and a tie up at the front. She pulled on shorts with rips in them covered by lace. Then, she pulled on a pair of pink Converses.
She brushed her hair and pulled it up into a high ponytail. She put on some light eyeliner and mascara. Then, she walked out of the room, shutting the door behind her.
She walked down the stairs to the common room to find Albus and Scorpius waiting by the fire.
"Took you long enough! Come on, let's walk down to breakfast together," Albus joked.
Rose rolled her eyes, but followed nevertheless.
They walked down to the Great Hall, mostly in silence. When they reached the Great Hall, Rose bid Albus goodbye and told him to meet her at Honeyduke's in Hogsmeade. Albus nodded and walked over to join the other Slytherins. Rose sat down at the Gryffindor table beside Lily.
"You're smiling," Lily commented as Rose sat down.
"No I'm not," Rose denied.
"Mm hmm," Lily said disbelievingly.
Rose and Lily ate, then they left for Hogsmeade. They went straight to Honeyduke's to wait on Albus. Albus showed up a few minutes later, a nervous look on his face.
"What?" Lily asked him, "You look like you're constipated."
"Yeah, Al, you kind of do," Rose agreed, studying her cousin carefully.
"I'm not constipated!" Albus said impatiently.
"Well, then, what's wrong?" Lily demanded, hands on her hips.
"Well...you know how I love doing this whole family get together thing when we go to Hogsmeade..." Albus said.
"Yeah..." Rose and Lily said together.
"Well, I sort of brought a friend," Albus said.
"Who?" Rose asked immediately.
"Scorpius," Albus said quietly.
"Oh, for heaven's sake, Al! Why didn't you just say that!" Rose said, throwing her hands up in the air in frustration.
Rose walked out of Honeyduke's to see Scorpius standing outside the door.
"Hey, Malfoy," Rose said.
"Are you going to hit me?" Scorpius asked.
"Why would I?" Rose asked.
"Because I'm ruining your family get together," Scorpius said quietly.
"Malfoy, I don't care about that! Come on," Rose said, grabbing Scorpius's wrist and dragging him inside the shop.
Scorpius looked slightly startled at Rose's behavior, but let her guide him into the candy shop anyway.
"Rose?" Albus asked when he saw her coming back towards them, dragging Scorpius.
"Yeah?" Rose said, dropping Scorpius off beside Albus and retaking her position beside Lily.
"So, I take it you're okay with Scorpius hanging with us?" Albus asked.
"Yeah, yeah. We can keep him, I guess," Rose said.
Everybody laughed, including Scorpius.
"So, what do you guys want to do first?" Albus asked.
"Doesn't matter to me," Rose and Lily said.
"Scorpius! Since you're the guest, why don't you decide?" Albus said with a smile.
"Er...want to go get a butterbeer from The Three Broomsticks?" Scorpius suggested.
"Yeah, that sounds good to me," Rose said immediately.
Everybody looked at her.
"Rose, are you feeling okay?" Albus asked her.
"I don't really know, to be honest. Let's just go," Rose said.
Albus shrugged and followed Rose out of the store. They walked to The Three Broomsticks and found a table in the back.
"Where's Hugo?" Albus asked over the noise in the pub.
"He said he had a lot of homework to catch up on," Rose said, shrugging.
"But it's just our second day back at Hogwarts! He can't have homework already!" Albus said.
"True. I didn't think of that. What do you think he's doing, then?" Rose asked.
Albus thought about it for a second.
"Maybe he has a secret girlfriend!" Albus said loudly.
"Maybe..." Rose said thoughtfully.
Just then, Madam Rosmerta brought over four butterbeers.
"Thanks," everyone said together.
They sat in silence for a while, enjoying their drinks. All of a sudden, Alice Longbottom II came running into the pub. She stopped at their table.
"Guys- Frank- hurt- quick," Alice gasped.
Lily, Albus, and Hugo jumped up. They started to go out of the pub, but Rose came back and grabbed Scorpius's wrist. She dragged him along after her, following Alice back up to the castle to the hospital wing.
When they reached the hospital wing, they found Frank lying, apparently unconscious, on a bed, Madam Pomfrey attending to him.
"What happened?" Rose asked urgently.
"We were running through the Hogwarts grounds, laughing and carrying on, and Fred dared him to run up and touch the Whomping Willow and come back. Well, he did it. But, he didn't come back. One of the branches had hit him on the side of his head and knocked him unconscious," Alice explained, tears in her eyes.
"Oh, Alice," Rose said, comforting Alice.
Just then, Neville and Luna came running into the room. They looked down upon Frank, their son, as Madam Pomfrey forced some blue potion down Frank's throat. Madam Pomfrey bustled away towards another patient down the hall. Luna broke down and began to cry. Neville put his arms around her and she buried her face into his chest.
"Ne-Neville! Th-this is t-t-terrible! W-what if h-he d-d-doesn't w-wake up?" Luna cried out.
"Luna, he'll be fine. He's strong, he'll fight through it," Neville said, rubbing Luna's back.
Luna took deep breaths to steady herself and stood back up. Rose was trying not to cry at the moment. She had been close to Frank. All of a sudden, she just couldn't take it anymore. She ran from the hospital wing and down the corridor. Albus started to follow, but Scorpius stopped him and followed her himself.
Rose had run into an empty classroom and was sitting in a corner, crying. Scorpius came to the doorway of a classroom. He heard distant sniffling. He walked into the classroom and found Rose sitting in a corner.
"Weasley?" Scorpius said cautiously.
"What do you want, Malfoy?" Rose sniffed.
"I came here to make sure you were okay," Scorpius said.
"You did?" Rose asked.
"Yeah," Scorpius replied.
"Come here and sit down, then," Rose said.
"Okay," Scorpius said, surprised by this sudden action of kindness.
He sat down beside her and she brought her head up to look at him.
"Do you know how it feels to-" Rose started, but she stopped as Scorpius began to nod.
"I do. I lost my mum, remember? Albus came to the funeral," he reminded her.
"Oh, yeah. I'm sorry," Rose said.
"It's alright. I miss her, but I know there's nothing I can do," Scorpius said sadly.
"Yeah," Rose said sympathetically.
They sat in silence for a few minutes before Scorpius broke it.
"Hey, Weasley?" Scorpius said, looking over at her.
"Yeah, Malfoy?" Rose said, looking up at him.
"Call me Scorpius," Scorpius said with a smile.
"Only if you call me Rose," Rose fired back with a grin.
"Agreed," they said simultaneously.
They both laughed.
"Hey, Scorpius?" Rose said.
"Yeah, Rose?" Scorpius replied.
"Nothing. I just wanted to hear you say it," Rose said.
Scorpius laughed lightly.---
