The next few days, Jax felt like Kaede was ignoring him. He had passed her in the hallway one day and would say hello to her, only to be met with a tight smile before she continued walking.
He knocked on her door one day, hoping to watch a movie or two with her. He had grown to miss seeing her every day. Kaede opened the door, and he grinned at her dishevelled look. He preferred her without makeup in sweatpants and messy buns because it was then her natural beauty shone.
"What's up?" she asked with no hint of her usual happiness to see him.
His confidence was slowly fading as he spoke. "Um, I was wondering if you wanted to participate in a movie marathon featuring your television?"
"I'm busy right now. Maybe another time."
"But I brought food," Jax said hopefully, raising the paper bag of Chinese food. She raised the bowl of stir fry in her hand, shrugging a shoulder in response. "Oh," he said sadly. "Another time then."
She said a quiet goodbye and closed the door, leaving him at her doorstep, confused about what he'd done wrong.
