At the breakfast table Lauren's mother is excitedly chatting to her daughter about someone that's apparently gonna be in her class starting today.

"Ay mija, be sure to befriend her." Clara winks at her 10 year old daughter.

"I'll be her friend if she's nice, mama. Not because you like her father." The 4th grader states earnestly, folding her arms in front of her chest.

"Of course you will, baby, I was just joking. Now go pack your bag for school." She hands Lauren her lunch before getting back to her own morning routine.

Lauren honestly doesn't get the big deal. Yeah she grew up with Carlos Vives' music but that doesn't mean she's dying to meet this girl. Today will be just like any other day and the new girl will be just like any other girl, famous father or not.

But once she arrives in the classroom she finds not everyone shares her view on this. Half of the students have their parents with them, holding something for the famous singer to sign in case he shows up.

Lauren rolls her eyes, plopping down in her usual seat next to her friend Veronica.

"Morning." Lauren says, giggling at Vero's mother who's standing near her daughter, eyes focused on the door.

"This is totally lame." Vero decides, turning to face her friend, "Morning."

"I agree. He probably won't even come with her to class." And as if on cue all the parents simultaneously let out a noise of disappointment before leaking out the door to reveal a small girl with a pout on her face and, as Lauren predicted, no father next to her. She looks utterly lost until the teacher calls her over.

Lauren hears the girl tell the teacher she doesn't speak English very well yet in what's indeed sucky English with a heavy accent. The teacher responds in Spanish before turning to speak to the class and introducing the girl as Lucia Vives.

"Lucy." The girl whispers.

"Lucy." The teacher repeats, smiling at the small girl before showing her to an empty seat right in front of Vero's.

"She looks like she should be in kindergarten." Vero whispers to Lauren.

"Don't be rude. She seems nice.", the green eyed girl responds, before leaning over her desk a little and tapping the girl on the shoulder to introduce herself and welcome her to the school. In Spanish of course.

And Lucy's brown eyes visibly light up, lips transforming from a straight line into a genuine smile, "Thank you, Lauren."

She says Lauren the way Lauren's family from Cuba says it except she sounds cute saying it, and Lauren giggles, "You're welcome, Lucy." she sits back down to focus on her teacher.

From the corner of her eyes she notices Vero introducing herself as well and smiles at the sight of the two girls already talking like old friends. Vero tends to have that effect on people.

When the teacher calls for their attention Lucy shoots Lauren a sweet smile as she turns back around to face the front of the classroom.

Maybe her mother will get what she wants after all.
