"We'll be outside!" Lauren shouts into the living room before leading Lucy to the garage.

Of course her parents adored Lucy but even after a year of friendship, she couldn't be sure if they liked her or her dad so she kept her away from them as much as possible, running to grab her new chalk as soon as they've finished lunch, showing it to Lucy with a grin on her face. "Wanna play?"

Lucy nods excitedly, "Definitely."

About an hour later they're all out of bare park ground and ideas so the girls sit down on the swings, going back and forth slightly as they talk.

"So is your dad home?"

Lucy shakes her head, now frowning, and Lauren wishes she could go back in time to unask the question. "He's on tour."

"Oh." Lauren pouts, "How long?"

"I don't know." Lucy shrugs, "Very long." She looks up to meet Lauren's gaze, the sun reflecting in her round eyes, granting them a glow, as she frowns.

"Your eyes are like chocolate."

The girl's frown fades and Lauren feels better instantly as Lucy giggles, "Yours are.." she pauses, a searching look on her face before concluding, "Como el mar en casa."

Lauren grins, baring her crooked teeth. "Thank you."

"You're welcome." Lucy grins back before pulling herself off of the swing with her skinny, tanned arms. "I'll swing you, Lo."

A few minutes of pushing later and Vero arrives at the park, smiling at her friends. "Hola chicas. Your mom told me you guys would be here." And she sits down on the unoccupied swing of the two, leaving Lucy standing in between the two girls, pouting.

"Let's go do something the three of us can enjoy." Lauren suggests, heart breaking at sight of the girl's frown.

"Lucy can fit on one swing with me, she weighs like nothing." Vero motions for Lucy to get on her lap.

"Won't work." Lauren states skeptically yet sure enough her two friends are swinging and laughing together in no time, facing each other with Lucy's legs between the metal of the swing and Vero's body. Lauren frowns. She should've thought of that.

Vero and Lucy spend the rest of the afternoon side by side like they're handcuffed together and Lauren doesn't like it one bit as she trails behind, bitterly murmuring to herself about Lucy being her friend first.
