Lucy's sleeping over at Lauren's house for the first time while Vero's in Spain and secretly Lauren's overjoyed. She loves Vero but she's starting to think she loves alone time with Lucy more. And over the course of their yearlong friendship Lauren's learned that Vero loves to butt in and steal Lucy away from her with her natural charm.

They're up in Lauren's room playing wedding, Lauren in her prettiest dress up dress and Lucy, after a little bit of friction about having to be the boy, in an old tux they'd found in the dress up box. The Pussycat Dolls' latest hit is softly playing in the background as Lauren walks through her room with the dandelions they plucked this afternoon in her hands, already a little perished.

Lucy's patiently waiting at the aisle - Lauren's desk - with a grin on her face. When Lauren's nearly there the older girl holds out her hand and Lauren drops half the dead flowers to take it, halting in front of her friend.

"We don't have a priest." Lauren pouts in realization to which Lucy shrugs. "We can just pretend." she quickly grabs a plush lion from under Lauren's pillow and places it on the desk next to them. "There. Our priest." And Lauren giggles, "Priestess."

Lucy rolls her eyes, faking exasperation, "Priestess."

They stay silent, Lauren swaying to the beat of the music, pretending the stuffed animal's talking.

"I do." Lucy breaks the silence, lowering her voice as much as she can but her high pitched giggles Lauren's come to love kind of defeat the purpose. The green eyed girl giggles as well, "I do." she echoes before puckering her lips and closing her eyes for their fake kiss.

But the fake kiss doesn't come. Instead she feels a real kiss, like the ones you get from boys.

When Lauren pulls back and opens her eyes Lucy is smiling, "We're married forever now."

The green eyed girl smiles back as best as she can before excusing herself into the bathroom to look at herself in the mirror.

Did she look any different? No. Not that she can tell at least. She feels different though, fingers touching her dry lips.

After a few more seconds of staring at her reflection she decides on shaking it off and going back to play a different game but that evening when they're on a big mattress on the floor together she thinks about it again.

She looks at her best friend that's lying on her back mere inches away from her, and it's like she can't help herself. She has to say it.

"You gave me a real kiss."

Lucy simply nods, smile fading a little. "Was it not good?"

"No, it was."

"Okay good. Because I wanted to do it." she turns on her side to properly face Lauren, "I thought it felt kind of nice." she confesses, sounding guilty.

"Okay." Lauren swallows, heart racing in her throat, "that's cool."

"Cool." Lucy mutters back, a little sleep drunk. "Goodnight." And she leans forward slightly to connect their lips for the second time that day, pulling away and turning on her other side after a few seconds.

"Goodnight." Lauren says, thoughts somewhere else entirely as she brings her fingers up to her lips again to check if she can feel the tingling on the outside too but her lips feel just like they did before.

When her mom comes to check on them hours later she pretends to be asleep, watching the woman kiss both her and her best friend on the forehead lovingly, tucking them in a little better in the process.

Lauren wonders what her mom would think if she knew what happened today. Because she really wants to ask if it's okay but what if it isn't and her mom gets mad at her like she did last week when Lauren didn't put her book down after bedtime. She decides to keep her eyes closed and try falling asleep for the billionth time, focusing on the soft sounds of Lucy's even breathing.

Lucy would never do something bad with me, she's my best friend and that's not what responsible, kind best friends like Lucy do. Lauren reassures herself as she finally drifts off.
