Chapter 16:

Dani's pov:

I walk out of the woods, my questions still unanswered.

I finally spot Demetri sitting by a big oak tree. He's looking off in the distance, his jaw clenched.

As I walk closer he tenses up, probably feeling my presence.

I sit next to him. Not once do we glance at each other. The air is very thick, so thick we could slice it with a knife. One of those knives you see on those infomercials, where they cut a grape and you could read through it.

Finally I break the silence,"Hey-"

"Don't hey me," he snaps surprising me as I gape at him.

Suddenly I become angry, " Well what am I supposed to say Demetri?!?! You just stalked off, how was I supposed to know that was your brother," I yell. He visibly tenses at the word 'brother'.

"You know what," I get up," I'm done trying with you Demetri, I'm really trying to make with work, but you're making it really hard.

I get ready to stalk off but before I can he grasps my arm, I try pulling my arm free, but his grasp is very strong.

"Let me go," I whisper angrily.

"Please, don't do this. Don't leave Dani," he whispers looking down.

He strikes a nerve as I see the look on his face," I'm giving you 10 minutes to explain."

He quickly looks up with grateful eyes," Thank you-"

"Don't, just don't. Remember you only have 10 minutes I remind him. Start talking.

"ok. Well when me and Tate were young,"

"His name is Tate," I interrupt him.

"Yes, now let me finish. When we were younger, we were like any ordinary family. Before my dad had resigned his leadership of the pack, he had planned who he was planning to take over. He already knew it was me, we all did. My dad loved me and taught me everything he knew whenever he got the chance," his aqua eyes glaze over as he keeps talking.

"MY brother was very envious of the relationship I shared with my father, he tried all he could to show my dad he could do better than I could, but my father would only shrug him off. He said something about seeing darkness in his heart and eyes, he would only destroy. I didn't know what that was supposed to mean, I mean I was young and clueless. Somehow Tate had found out what my father had said, he ran away that night leaving a letter saying he'd be back, that we'd regret not giving him the leadership and respect he deserved. When I turned 16, usually the time we turn into wolves our first time, but that wasn't the case for me since I have alpha blood, I turned earlier. He came back on my 16th birthday, he wasn't alone. I guess he had made himself a little rouge back, but he was planning to attack us. As my father had a much bigger and stronger pack, it was obvious he was gonna loose. but he was clueless and just vengeful and angry. He attacked us, and ended up loosing all of his members. He ran away again, this time didn't come back til 2 years later. He eventually cam back with way more then he had had before and attacked again. Unprepared my father had to fight on his own. The females and children had to go underground for protection. My father forced me down there, didn't think I was prepared for a full on forced fight. the fight went on forever. Eventually it all quieted down and we were allowed to come up," A tear fell down his face, it shattered my heart to millions of pieces seeing him like this.

"I saw the first to come up, all I saw was blood and dead wolves. Most of them I knew and were very close to growing up as a pup. When I called for my father," He shook violently and I hugged him.

"He didn't respond, I kept searching and found him. He said to me, I love you and you are to take on leadership. I didn't think I could do it, but he put all his trust in me so I had to stay strong. I didn't want to fall apart in front of my father. He held my gaze and said that he loved me, and eventually his eyes shut and he died." He was sobbing now, his eyes held sadness and despair.

"Do you know what its like to have to watch your father die in front of you. My own flesh and blood killed my fucking father Dani! And I could've done something if he would have just allowed me to fight. He wouldn't be dead. Dani, its all my fault," He whispers tears falling down his face.

"No," I yell," It isn't. You Couldn't have done anything. your father was only protecting you. Do you understand if it wasn't for your father making you stay underground with the special job of protecting the females and their pups, you would be dead. you would've never have met me. Things happen for a reason Demetri." I hug him as he cries in my shoulder. I start to cry a little, cant bearing to see him like this.

We stay that way for a while and when he's done crying he looks up at me.

"Thank you for being the best mate I could ever ask for," I kisses me tenderly, as fireworks are felt and butterflies erupt in my stomach.

The kiss becomes more passionate. He licks my lower lip, asking for an entrance. I allow it as we explore each others mouths. He moans in my mouth as our tongues fight for dominance.

He of course wins, as we pull apart. I lay on his stomach as we watch the birds fly around chirping happily.

I wish we could stay like this forever, I think to myself.
