It's not fair. Tyra thought. My life isn't fair. My parents died in a car crash, I'm the new girl, and now I can't even go near water or under the open sky. Ugh!
It was lunch of the next day. Tyra was sitting alone in the "loner table", as usual. She was playing back the conversation she had with her aunt the previous day. It's exactly about your parents! What had she meant? All of the thinking gave Tyra a headache.
She drinks plenty of water and always plays basketball under the sun. It's pretty obvious that she's still alive and healthy. Tyra groaned in frustration. Also, her mom was a coach for a swimmer, but she can't go in a pool? Her dad just so happens to be a pilot, but she can't go near the sky? What the heck?!
Tyra threw her lunch away and wandered towards the basketball court. All the courts were filled with...boys. She took a deep breath and walked towards one of the groups. "Hey! Can I play with you guys?" All the boys turned at her. A guy (probably their "leader") walked toward her.
He snickered. "You? Play with us?" Tyra looked at him, shocked. She nodded her head. "Please, girls can't play with my boys." He paused for a dramatic effect. "We're too good and...you're not." Oh no he didn't. Tyra's day has been bad enough. I need to play just one game to get my mind off my problems. Even worse, his friends started mocking her. That's it.
Tyra grabbed the leader and punched him in the stomach. Hard. All his friends looked at Tyra, horrified. "WHAT'S HAPPENING HERE?!" Oh great. The dean just so happened to see her. "You and you." He said pointing to the fallen dude and me. "Come to my office, NOW."
