Kirk's point of view - Bridge, USS Enterprise NCC-1701
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Kirk sat in his chair. The grey leather felt smooth but the chair itself was uncomfortable. He watched his crew at work.'Mr Chekov, progress report.'
Kirk looked to his right towards the short, brown haired ensign as he looked up from Spock's science station.
'Ve have meenimal information, keptin. It vill take some time to find de planet they are from.'
Kirk nodded. He looked at the ship's clock and saw that Spock was late returning to his shift. It wasn't like Spock to be late. Kirk decided to give it ten minutes and then he would go and see what was wrong.
'Mr Sulu, how are those scans going for the other ship?'
Sulu, who sat in front of Kirk and to the left, turned to face him.
'Long range scans aren't picking up anything, sir."
Damn. Sulu returned to his work when McCoy's voice came through the communications panel on the arm of his chair.
'Jim, you need to get down here. We have a problem.'
For some reason, Kirk already knew it was about Spock. He jumped up from his chair and rushed to the turbolift.
'Scotty, you have the bridge.'
'Aye,sir.'
The turbolift door slid shut behind him and worry overtook Kirk as a million thoughts went through his mind about what had happened.
Jim made his way over to his first officer and found Bones trying to sedate him.
'What happened?'
Jim had to yell over the screams. McCoy looked up and motioned for another doctor to come over. He handed them a hypospray and gave them quick instructions, then he motioned for Jim to follow him into his office. They sat down, the screams muffled by the closed door.
'Honestly Jim, I don't know what happened. Spock had asked to do a mind meld with Luna because of his mental link with her. But when he did it, he ended up on the floor with his head in his hands, screaming. He's been like that since. We've given him a sedative but nothing seems to be working. His fever is rising and I fear that he has what Luna got.'
McCoy looked sympathetic, and Jim knew why.
'He's not going to make it, is he?'
McCoy shook his head. The thought of having to live without Spock broke his heart. He and Spock had been great friends. They were always there for each other. Kirk felt something he had not realised he had felt until now. Knowing Spock was going to die seemed to make the feeling surface, but he wasn't sure exactly what it was...
