Kirk's Point of View - Bridge, USS Enterprise NCC-1701

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Kirk was feeling stressed and worried that they wouldn't be able to bring Luna and Ray back home and keep them safe. The Enterprise had suffered major damage and the crew had taken a beating, but so far there were no casualties and Kirk wanted to keep it that way.
Kirk heard the turbolift doors slide open over the sounds of alarms and shouting and turned to see Spock walking over. He relaxed a bit and faintly smiled at Spock. He resumed looking at the monitor which displayed Ben's ship as it continued to fire upon them. Kirk had failed to negotiate with Ben and now they were trying to make it to the nearest federation planet on impulse engines due to the warp core nearly overloading.
"Spock, bring up what we know about the ship's design." Spock nodded and walked over to his science station and began to research Ben's ship.
"Captain, there is no information on the design of that ship in the main computer. However, I have noticed that their shields frequently change in frequency. The pattern is quite simple and could be used to our advantage."
Kirk was glad to finally have something that could give them the upper hand.
"So if we change the frequency of our phasers to match the pattern of his shield, we could disable him and be on our way." Spock nodded at Kirk's hypothesis.
"Correct, Captain. However, we do not know the exact frequency to change it to."
Kirk's hope began to fade, but was then reignited when he had an idea.
"Spock, program the phasers to change their frequency with every shot randomly. Hopefully, one of these frequencies will penetrate his shield and we can go from there."
"Aye, Captain." Spock began to program the phasers with the help of Chekov and Scotty. After a few minutes of tampering, they phasers were ready and locked onto Ben's ship.
"Fire!" Kirk gave the order and watched as, one after the other, the phasers shot Ben's ship. It wasn't long before one of the shots hit the hull of the other ship and caused damage.
Kirk smiled.
