McCoy's Point of View - Sickbay, USS Enterprise
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
McCoy had a system going. Whenever he would ask for a tool, Nurse Chapel would pass it to him and he would resume the operation through an opening in the surgical support frame. The frame had a built in strei-field, a cardiostimulator as well as other support and scanning functions.
McCoy was half way through removing the tiny balls from Luna. Her temperature had dropped to 62.76% since the procedure began. Spock had improved, too, according to Doctor M'Benga. He was about to remove the seventh out of the twelve devices, when the alarms went off, indicating Red Alert. McCoy tried to speed things along and was able to take out the ninth device when the ship shook, causing him to almost sever one of Luna's arteries.
McCoy cursed but continued. After what felt like two painfully long hours, but was actually forty-five minutes, McCoy had successfully removed all the devices. The ship was still under attack, but the Enterprise was not returning fire, instead, they were doing what McCoy would have never thought Kirk capable of doing.
They were running.
McCoy didn't know why they were running, what they were running from or where they were running to, but it didn't matter. All that mattered was that Luna and Spock's fevers had dropped back to normal, and Luna was beginning to stir.
McCoy watched as Ray stood over Luna, holding her hand and stroking her hair. Her eyes opened and slowly came into focus as she looked up at her brother. When she smiled, McCoy couldn't help but smile as well, that is, until he saw that Spock had not yet awoken. He walked over and glanced at his vital signs, baffled as to why they were all perfectly normal yet he did not wake.
He began to feel cool on one side of his body and warm on the other. He turned to see both Luna and Ray standing next to him.
"Now Luna, I didn't say -"
Luna raised her hand and McCoy fell silent, she smiled at him.
"Doctor, I thank you for removing those devices from my body. Now let me return the favour by helping Mr Spock."
Luna proceeded to place a hand on Spock's chest and closed her eyes. McCoy had no idea what was going on but was glad it worked when Spock's eyes snapped open and he sat bolt upright. He turned to face McCoy.
"Doctor, if it is alright with you, I would like to return to the bridge."
