After yesterday at the office I'm glad today is my day off. i guess I wasn't ready for all of the calls and people and early and late hours. Today is the day that Shannon becomes legally my Mom.
I woke up to the smell of pancakes. I walked out of my room still in my pajama shorts and tank top. Shannon was in the kitchen humming a song. And as soon as I sat down on the couch the door bell rang. Shannon asked me if I would get it. I walked over to the door and opened it and there was Derek just standing there with a envelope. I stepped outside and shut the door. "Why are you here?" I asked. he looked at the envelope and held it up "I came to give Shannon the divorce papers."
Why today? Why did he choose to give her the papers today?
He said that he couldn't get up the courage to bring them over. And that he finally had it. I looked at him and he said "What?" "Shannon is legally adopting me today and I would really like for you to not ruin it with your stupid papers. Could you do this some other time?" I asked He looked at me and said "Look I'm sorry if this is a bad time but I am leaving the country to go to England tonight for work so I have to do this now."
He walked past me as I opened the door and said "Oh and congratulations."
I stood there in the door way for a little bit just enough to hear her reaction she said "Really you finally decide to be a man but now your running from life to go to England for work, tell me what the assignment is!" He said "Oh come on you know exactly what it is and your right I'm running from life, I have nothing left here but Lilian which I am going for full custody of her. It is all in the divorce papers!" he shouted. He stormed out of the house and slammed the door. And as I walked to the kitchen Lilian was standing in the hallway crying.
Derek has no idea how much what he just shouted to Shannon will affect her. He practically said Hey guess what I filed for divorce and I'm taking you daughter to England with me for "work".
Shannon walked around like nothing had happened. And then it was time to go to sign the official papers.
Shannon had told me that after this that she would be giving me a key to the house and a debit card for whatever I wanted to do with it.
As we arrived to city hall I saw Andrew on the steps waiting. Shannon looked over at me and said "I invited him. I'm glad that you and him got together. He is good to you."
We went through the process of showing I.D. and metal detectors. And then they said that all I had to do was sign on the line and it was done.

I picked up the pen and signed it. I'm finally a legal Aims. They took picture of me and Shannon. And we left. Shannon said that she wanted to do something special for me. I looked at her and said "Mom you already have."
