As the Child Services worker took Chance away all I could think about was me when I was young in the hands of a child services worker. It's a scary thing being young feeling scared, alone, and wondering what is next.
Andrew's step dad walked over and said "it's a good thing you doing this. It is for the greater good. One day she is going to want to thank you for this." He patted my shoulder and said "It really is a good thing one day you will understand that. Well we have to get back to work."
After a couple of minutes of sitting at my desk the phone lines started to fill up. I am glad that people started to call in. I guess people really wanted us to help them. People walked in and out. I answered phone and transferred calls.
Finally it was lunch time. I could finally get a break from talking or listening. As soon as I heard it was time for lunch I quickly got into the elevator and out the front door. I saw Shannon she waved me over and said " Hey are you ready to go meet the lawyer to go and get the papers for your adoption?" I looked at her and started to smile and said "your car or mine?" She said that we could take mine for a chance of her to see me drive.
As we got to the lawyer's office she mentioned Chance. She said that it was a really good thing I did. Cause now she could have a chance at what I got. That is all someone needs is a chance.
As we walked into the lawyers office I got a feeling in my stomach like I was nervous. Shannon saw the fear in my eyes and grabbed my hand in support. The lawyer was a friend or the family. One of the ones that you would see at a party and then its like they just disappear. As he walked out of his office to greet us I noticed that Shannon and him looked a lot alike. Once he got to us Shannon turned towards me and said "This is my brother Ryan Garner." He looked about twenty three years old. Kind of tall with brown spiked up hair. And of course he was in a suit. I replied "Hi I'm CeCe Franoldon."
We walked into his office and started to dicuss how the court would decide if Shannon's house is the best place for me. And that it won't be easy but it is worth it in the end. As they were talking and I just sat there listening nodding my head if they asked me questions. I guess I am not the best when it comes to legal stuff. Shannon brought up the results that I had cancer that I had gotten about a month ago. He looked over at me and saw a teenage girl who had lost everyone she cared about. And then found out she had cancer and then he said "I want you to meet my wife. She is a Oncologist." I guess he cares about the people Shannon cares about.
After a while of passing a pen around signing papers we were done . It was time to go back to the office.
*After a while at the office*
Andrew walked into the lobby and said "Hey you, I didn't see you at lunch." I told him that Shannon and I had gone to sign the papers so she could legally adopt me. He said that he was so happy for me and wanted to know when was a good time that I could come over and meet his parents. I told him whenever and that all he had to do was let me know. He kissed me on the top of the head and walked off.
Finally it was time for everyone to leave to go home. But then I had to stay and turn off all of the lights and lock all of the doors. I finally finished do all of my tasks and headed out.
In the car I thought about everything and anything. Like how much stuff would change now that I will become legally a "Aims."
