Chapter 12

Tris's POV

Chapter 12:

"What the heck is going on over here!?" shoot. That's Marcus. everyone makes way and he walks over to where Peter and Tobias are. When he sees Tobias his eyes widen but then turn into a glare.

"We do not except fights here and you especially should know that." Marcus says looking at Tobias. I can see the fear in Tobias's eyes and I want to run up and comfort him so badly.

"Now can anyone tell me why the heck you two were fighting." he asks anger clear in his voice.

Zeke steps up to defend Tobias,"Peter is the one who started it. He criticized Tris then punched her so Four defended her."

Peter laughs harshly,"You forgot the part when she punched me first, where he threatened me, and where he's the one who attacked me first."

Peter makes this sound like we are the bad guys when in reality he is. I know Marcus is going to believe Peter's side of the story and not his own son's.

"Because school is 'technically' over I can't call you three into my office but I can on Monday and decide your punishment. Now everyone clear the hall." Marcus says he bends down whispers something to Tobias probably threatening him and he stomps off.

"Are you ok?" I ask Tobias when Marcus leaves. He nods.

"What did he say to you." I whisper so quietly so that our group can't hear.

"He wants me to go straight home." he says I know Marcus said something else but I don't question him.

"I'm so sorry I got you in this mess." I say feeling guilty.

He takes my face in his hands,"Tris don't be sorry Peter punched you in the face I won't just sit there and watch him hurt you."

"But Marcus-"

"Tris I would take any beating for you. It would hurt me way more to know you got hurt then him beating me. don't feel guilty." he kisses me head,"I love you."

"I love you too Tobias." I kiss him one last time then he leaves.

I turn around and see the group staring at me.

"What?" I ask

"Oh noting nothing." Christina says innocently

"Ok well I will see you guys later." I say and wave goodbye.

I jump into my car and my only thought is Tobias. I can't help but feel like I am the cause of his pain tonight.

I get home and run up to my room and lay on my bed I just want to be alone tonight. I know Tobias said not to but I feel so guilty.

I turn on my music and just get lost in my thoughts for a while. I look out the window but something catches my eye. I run to turn off my light so no one sees me watching. I sneak up closer to my window and a sob escapes my mouth. Tobias is on the floor with Marcus standing above him with a belt.

He hits him with the belt for a while and I see him shouting at Tobias but I can't hear anything. He moves to kick his side and when he does Tobias screams and clutches his side. after about an hour and a half of this going on Marcus leaves the room but before he does he takes Tobias's head and bangs it in the ground so hard that I hear it. Marcus gets in his car and drives away so I take this as my chance.

I quickly open my window and climb over to Tobias's I try to pull it open praying that it's unlocked and luckily it is. when I get in tears spring from my eyes. He's lying on the floor with a pool of blood surrounding him and his body looks lifeless.
