Chapter Five
Secret #5: Did I say that Roger and Taylor are my best friends? Well I’m going to take that back… Okay, I was joking, but seriously those two can be so weird sometimes. Say, did I mention that I really don’t like Jasper Helmholtz?
--
“Seriously?” Monique asked in an incredulous voice, placing both hands on her hips, “You guys betted on who would win? I’m strangely appalled at the thought.” She gave her two best friends her cute puppy-dog face.
Roger shrugged his shoulders as he got up from his spot on the ground next to Taylor, after he stowed away his cards. “Sucks to be you then.” He jibed but winced when Taylor wacked him in the head from behind.
“Excuse me? What did you say, Mr. Andersen?”
“Alright, alright, sorry… Well what would you be doing, if you were stuck in here with the others for about two hours?” He muttered crossly as he went to stand with Monique, sending a glare towards the other girl, as he rubbed his now sore head.
“I don’t know, maybe like hoping whoever your leader was, will win?” Monique quipped, with a roll of her eyes.
Roger teased, bumping his shoulder softly against the other girl’s, “That sounds like gambling still.”
“Without using money. That’s not gambling, if you do it that way.” Monique added reprimanding, when she heard Roger and saw Taylor opened her mouth to say something.
“Yes, mom.” The other two went silent after hearing that. A sad smile slowly appeared on Monique’s face. She was so like their mothers sometime. The girl then shook her head and started to walk back to her office as the intercom blared, causing the three young agents to stop walking to listen to what the Director had to say.
“All Agents: stay and clean up the mess you have made in the Holding Chamber. We know you had a party in there. Agent Chang and unit: do us a favor and wake up or sent to the hospital the other agents, please and thank you.” Maria ordered and then added in amusement, “Oh and make sure to untie Agent Lee too. However it seem that he was having a lot of fun, spinning around in his chair, the last time I saw him."
Monique chuckled and said, “Of course ma’am. I’ll get on to it right away.” She then motioned for the other two to follow her. Coming around the corner, she came upon Jasper still sleeping on the ground where she had left him. It usually took an hour or two until the sleeping concoction wore off, but usually shaking or smelling salts worked as well.
As she waved the salts in front of the boy’s face, Jasper jerked awake and focused on Monique’s face. “Oh, hello. Congrats again, I suppose.” He said softly, before standing up. He then asked, “Did that kiss mean anything to you or was it part of your plan to defeat me?” His blue eyes pierced into the girl’s brown ones.
Roger growled at Jasper’s question as Monique stared dumbly at the boy. She was confused about the boy’s question and sudden change in attitude. “Why does it matter? It’s not like you actually cared… right?” She finally managed to ask in a whisper as she continued to stare into his eyes.
